About us
The Ammortal Chamber brings together multiple scientifically backed technologies into one experience. It is a healing technology that can be utilized by wellness clinics and inside the home. Our clients include specialty spas and clinics, sports teams, and individuals who are biohackers or athletes.
We are a small team with a startup culture. After our first full year shipping a finished product on the market, we have shown strong growth. Our team is made up of engineers, health professionals, and startup entrepreneurs.
As we continue expanding, this role offers hands-on experience, opportunities to grow into leadership, and the chance to make a tangible impact by developing cutting-edge wellness technology. We collaborate across disciplines to innovate and shape technologies that enhance well-being for our clients.
What is this role and why does it exist?
This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, infrastructure, and automation. As our wellness technology scales to serve more users and devices across homes, clinics, and performance centers, we are looking to add a dedicated DevOps and Systems Engineer to ensure our tools, infrastructure, and release processes remain fast, secure, and reliable.
This person will be responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure that powers seamless updates, remote diagnostics, data logging, and secure communication for our field-deployed devices. This individual’s work will support both our internal team and our users, making it easier to build, test, deploy, and manage hardware-integrated software at scale.
This is a hands-on role with the opportunity to shape the backbone of our technical operations. As the connective fabric between software, hardware and operations, this person’s contributions will enable us to scale gracefully, grow intelligently, and deliver resilient, delightful experiences to our customers.
Core Responsibilities - other responsibilities listed at the bottom
Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and manage scalable, secure infrastructure for embedded systems and remote deployments. Maintain Linux-based environments (Debian) across local and remote units. Support provisioning of computers and hardware.
Configuration Management: Use configuration tools like Ansible to maintain consistency across local and remote systems. Document procedures for replicable and scalable deployment. Collaborate with Operations and Hardware teams to maintain a centralized database of hardware versions (e.g. using Dolthub), using this to drive device-specific configuration and deployment logic.
Network Architecture & Security: Design robust local and remote network architectures to support embedded and cloud-connected systems. Implement secure communication protocols, VPN tunnels (e.g. Tailscale), and firewall configurations to maintain system integrity. Conduct penetration testing to ensure secure systems.
DevOps & CI/CD: Build and maintain robust DevOps pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions and DockerHub. Automate software builds, testing, deployment, and monitoring across production and development environments.
QA/QC & Release Procedures: Design and execute strict quality assurance and quality control processes based on industry standards for every software release. Ensure consistent standards are met through comprehensive testing, validation, and documentation of each release cycle.
Monitoring, Logging & Insights: Implement systems for uptime monitoring, alerting, and structured logging to capture user and system data. Support root-cause diagnosis and generate actionable insights from usage patterns.
Remote Fleet Management: Develop and maintain tools for remotely managing a distributed fleet of wellness devices, including system updates, SSH access, health checks, troubleshooting, and remote debugging (using, for example, Tailscale).
RequirementsWhat technical knowledge do you need to perform in your role?Required
Strong proficiency with Linux system administration (Debian-based systems in particular)
Experience with Docker and Docker Compose for containerized applications
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions or similar
Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Saltstack)
Proficiency in networking concepts, including firewalls, IP routing, VPNs, and diagnostics
Experience with remote access tools and zero-trust networking (e.g., Tailscale, WireGuard)
Comfort with Bash scripting and general-purpose scripting for automation and tooling
Experience with monitoring and logging systems (e.g. ELK Stack, Datadog, Grafana, Splunk, Prometheus, Journalctl, etc.)
Understanding of software versioning, release cycles, and best practices for staged rollouts
Experience managing remote edge devices or IoT-style deployments
Preferred
Experience with embedded systems or hardware-integrated software
Exposure to cloud services (e.g., AWS, GCP) for deployment, monitoring, or backups
Proficiency in Python, Go, or another backend language used in systems programming
Familiarity with Dolthub or other version-controlled databases for schema/config management
Familiarity with secure access and credentials management tools (e.g. 1Password)
Understanding of audio/video pipelines or working with hardware peripherals
Experience profiling and optimizing system boot times, memory usage, and disk I/O
Exposure to compliance, threat modeling, or penetration testing frameworks
Experience with distributed systems, messaging queues, or event-driven architecture
Familiarity with GitOps, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), or immutable infrastructure concepts
Other responsibilities
Access Control & Platform Security: Manage user access and credentials across tools like 1Password, Github and Tailscale. Define and enforce role-based access policies and contribute to the overall security posture of the platform.
Automation & Scripting: Write scripts and automation tools (in Bash, etc.) to streamline maintenance tasks, build processes, and system configurations.
System Optimization & Documentation: Profile and improve boot times, memory usage, and system reliability. Maintain clear documentation for infrastructure, processes, and recovery protocols.
Collaboration & Integration: Work closely with embedded, frontend, and audio-visual engineering teams to ensure smooth integration of systems and technologies.
Innovation & R&D: Research new DevOps practices, infrastructure tools, and monitoring approaches to continuously improve system performance and engineering velocity. Look for solutions outside of your domain to facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration.
