Dairy marketing cooperative owned by 2,000 farm families and managed by its 1,200 employees. Job Description

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for administering environmental programs and policies, as well as serving as the subject matter expert.

Salary: $60,000 - $75,000

Develop & monitor the following dairy plant programs

Wastewater management, water supply management, waste reduction, and water conservation

Air permits applications, NPDES permits, land application permits, storm water permits, hazardous waste generators license

Assistance in completing environmental compliance forms (TRI Form R, SARA Tier 2)

Establish contacts with regulatory personnel including MPCA, DNR EPA, and other agencies having jurisdiction.

Project management and cost justification in capital expenditures

Coordinate AST, UST upgrades and oversight of spill prevention plans

Good working knowledge of the environmental regulations in the CWA, SDWA, CAA, EPCRA, CERCLA, SARA, RCRA, and TSCA

Correspondence and negotiation with regulatory agencies.

Oversight and tracking of contractors

Communicate new and changing environmental regulations

Direct and administer the AMPI Environmental Management System, Environmental Policy, and Environmental Audit Policy

Conduct, oversee, review, and communicate environmental audits of manufacturing facilities.

Review and update environmental policies and programs

Develop and monitor program for reporting sustainability information:

Track and record sustainability data

Work with Operations Specialist to review and report sustainability data as required.

Provide feedback for improvement and achievement of sustainability goals.

Provide environmental support and information for dairy processing in:

Air handling systems

Refrigeration systems

Power utilization

Boiler efficiencies

Water and cow water utilization

C.I.P. and chemical management

Dryer and evaporator improvements and modifications

Membrane media systems

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

Demonstrated proficiency in Windows, MS Office Suite including; Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook, internet/intranet and other organizational specific software.

Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD LT or other CAD software preferred.

Thorough understanding of environmental regulations, standards, principles, theories and techniques.

Insightful use of analysis techniques, tools and concepts, to provide practical counsel to business area partners and management to drive business results.

Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills.

Knowledge of procedural controls and data validation techniques required.

Independent worker and analytical thinker with ability to conduct research, data analysis and resolve complex problems.

Professional communication skills for both internal and external customers, coworkers, team members and consultants.

Maintain a valid drivers’ license and must be able to travel

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with emphasis in engineering, biological sciences, chemistry or industrial hygiene or related field or a combination of education and relevant work experience.

Experience working in a food manufacturing environment preferred.

Comprehensive knowledge of environmental management policies and best practices.

Working knowledge of domestic federal, state and local environmental regulations, ordinances and practices.

Satellite Office – This job operates in a satellite office environment, commonly in a home office setting.

Manufacturing - Employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, wet work conditions, fumes or airborne particles. Employee is occasionally exposed to warm conditions with regular exposure to temperature conditions in excess of 100*F or cold temperatures when working in cold storage areas. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Personal protective equipment is required depending on the job being performed, including protective eye wear, or face shields, hearing protection, hair and beard nets, uniforms and footwear. Additional equipment is required when working with chemicals, such as rubber gloves and use of chemical proof aprons as appropriate for the job being performed.
