Summary
Miriam High School is seeking a dynamic and engaged Science Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring a collaborative mindset and the adaptability to serve students with diverse learning needs utilizing a student-centered approach. The position includes teaching Physics and Chemistry within small class sizes (average of 10 students). Preference is given to teachers with existing special education certification or the willingness to obtain certification as well as experience with providing accommodations and differentiation in reading and writing. The Science Teacher administers the instructional program and classroom operation in compliance with guidelines and regulations determined by the administration, Board of Directors, state and federal agencies.
Essential Functions
Encourages students' science interests and passions while developing critical thinking, literacy, and analysis skills
Uses technology to increase student access to the curriculum while promoting learning, creativity, and collaboration
Provides an environment and culture in the classroom that engages students and helps them learn more effectively
Assists with planning and execution of the experiential learning program, where needed
Uses effective and inclusive classroom management techniques to ensure student engagement and learning
Works with the principal and other science and math teachers to plan, evaluate, implement, revise, and document curriculum, course content, and methods of instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning profiles
Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain expertise in subject matter as well as research-based methods for providing differentiated instruction
Builds collaborative relationships with parents and students through regular communication
Participates actively in divisional and school-wide curriculum and program committees
Attends faculty meetings, trainings, and other education-related events/programs vital to the school community (e.g. open house, conferences, parent meetings)
Willingness to assist with possible coaching or extracurricular activities
Fulfills roles with other projects or responsibilities that may be added at the school's discretion
Required Education/License/Certification(s) and Experience
9-12th grade certification in science, technology, and/or math required
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required
Additional certifications in other core areas are beneficial
Training and/or licensure in Special Education is desirable
Experience teaching in the area of LD, ADHD, and/or complex learning needs preferred
Experience with co-teaching model and differentiated learning
Ability to work on a team, incorporate individual learning goals into daily lessons
Must enjoy working and learning with adolescents
Working Conditions
Part time position
10-month contract
School hours are Monday-Friday starting at 8AM. This position will teach 2-3 periods, depending on student course needs.
Part-time
