VP Engineering

Dallas, TX · Full-time

NO RECRUITERS

Why Persimmony

Persimmony is rebuilding the software that powers America’s social safety net. Our platform helps government health and human services agencies manage care, collect data, and support millions of people who rely on public programs. We are a profitable, established company, with 20-years of experience in our market, but we don’t run like a big corporate. Now we need a seasoned engineering leader who can scale people, product, and process without losing sight of the real-world trade-offs that keep software shipping.

The Role

You’ll own engineering end-to-end—strategy, delivery, quality, and culture—while sitting at the executive table to shape overall company direction. Today that’s a handful of in-house engineers outsourced talent; tomorrow it’s the high-performance org you design. You’ll partner with Product on roadmap, champion pragmatic architecture decisions (.NET 7, Azure, React, FHIR), and keep teams moving from whiteboard to production on a predictable cadence.

What You’ll Do

Set the vision & roadmap for engineering that aligns with company OKRs and supports multiple products (green-field & legacy).

Drive pragmatic architecture—bite-sized, testable, cost-aware; no endless refactors and no PhD in perfect code, just the right solution at the right time.

Scale the team—hire, coach, and retain high-caliber engineers and managers; build career ladders and a feedback-rich culture.

Establish modern SDLC (CI/CD, trunk-based, IaC, automated QA) that balances compliance with speed.

Own delivery metrics—measure velocity, remove blockers, and ensure every release meets reliability and security targets.

Act as an executive partner—translate market realities into actionable technical plans, influence budgeting, and present to the board.

Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Customer Success to tighten hand-offs and shorten idea-to-impact cycles.

Your Toolkit

Must-Have:

10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years leading teams of 10 or more

Deep expertise in .NET (Core/6/7) and Azure; comfortable reviewing PRs and guiding architecture

Proven ability to ship complex products under real-world constraints—balancing scope, quality, and delivery

Fluent in modern DevOps practices: CI/CD, trunk-based development, infrastructure as code, automated testing, observability

Executive presence—able to communicate technical trade-offs in business terms and contribute meaningfully to company strategy

The ability to code one day, work with the leadership team the next, and train young engineer in between

Nice-to-Have:

Experience in GovTech, HealthTech, or other regulated domains

Familiarity with FHIR, HL7, or similar data standards

Benefits & Perks

Competitive salary + meaningful equity

Full medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match

Flexible PTO (take what you need, recharge often)

A mission you’ll be proud to tell your friends about

Why Join Us?

This is your chance to build software that has real-world positive impact in people’s lives. You’ll join a high-trust, execution-focused team with big ambitions and meaningful problems to solve.
