Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty, assisting in the supervision of the Transportation Program Planning Unit.
Responsibilities
Recommends, develops, and implements transportation plans, guidelines, and programs.
Directs and approves the conduct and methodology of studies and surveys.
Analyzes data concerning transportation programs.
Responds to inquiries.
Maintains liaison with government authorities and other agencies.
Supervises, plans, and assigns work to subordinates; determines and provides training needs for subordinate unit personnel.
Confers with management staff and others to provide information for program implementation.
Reviews and makes recommendations on proposed legislation.
Attends conferences, seminars, and meetings.
Maintains records and prepares reports.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
Five (5) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or technical experience in urban planning, regional planning, land use planning, or transportation planning, of which at least three (3) years must have been in a professional capacity, and of which at least one (1) year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
A bachelor's degree in urban, regional planning or transportation, civil or environmental engineering may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
Possession of a P.E. or A.I.C.P. certificate is desirable.
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to maintain harmonious relationships with co-workers, outside agencies, and members of the public.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
