Summary:

The campus retail associate position at Stony Brook University typically involves providing customer service, assisting with sales transactions, and supporting the overall operations of the campus store. These roles may also include tasks like restocking shelves, designing displays, and processing. Provide on-site leadership and function as the primary point of contact in the absence of management, guiding and supporting team members to ensure operational continuity and uphold workplace standards. This role will have in-depth product knowledge to support guest interactions and drive sales. As well as taking a lead role in organizing and operating pop-up events at athletic venues and campus events.

Schedule: Generally - Sunday - 12pm-8pm, Monday - Thursday 2pm-10pm (Off Fridays and Saturdays)

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED and at least one year of retail experience

• Proven sales experience (1-2 years preferred)

• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with customers.

• A collaborative mindset with the ability to work well within a team setting.

• Demonstrated ability to sell products through effective customer interaction.

• Passion for providing excellent customer service and creating positive shopping experiences.

• A positive attitude and willingness to learn, and excellent customer service.

• Identify and engage with prospective customers.

• Understand customer needs and present relevant products.

• Responsible for accurate logging of customer order information to the customer order log

• Strong attention to detail with a focus on basic numerical skills

• Highly motivated initiative-taker with good initiative

• Must have open availability for a flexible work schedule that meets the operating needs of the business, including days and evenings, holidays, and weekend shifts.

• Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.

• Identify and engage with prospective customers.

• Understand customer needs and present relevant products.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Square or other POS

• Stony Brook University Alumni or familiarity with SBU

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Customer Service:

• Demonstrate in-depth product knowledge to support guest interactions and drive sales."

• Take a lead role in organizing and operating pop-up events at athletic venues and campus events.

• Provide excellent customer service by assisting with questions, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive shopping experience.

• Consistently demonstrates a positive and seamless guest experience.

• Assist customers with personalization purchases, ensuring the steps of the intake process are accurately completed.

• Responsible for cascading customer feedback to the correct channels of communication.

• Accurately completes personalization orders, ensuring an elevated level of attention to detail.

Sales Transactions:

• Complete sales transactions accurately, including processing exchanges and returns, and operating POS.

Stocking and Display:

• Replenish stock items.

• Organizing displays

• Ensuring the store is clean and well-maintained.

Inventory:

• Assisting with inventory management, including counting stock and identifying items for restocking.

E-commerce Support:

• Fulfilling online orders and assisting with related processes.

Other Duties:

• Provide on-site leadership and act as the primary point of contact in the absence of management, guiding and supporting team members to ensure operational continuity and uphold workplace standards.

• May include driving to pick up inventory, researching special orders, and helping with physical inventory.

Professional Improvement

• In cooperation with the Supervisor and Executive Director, a professional development plan will be jointly developed and pursued to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and address changes and FSA priorities.

• Collaborate in activities that support the Faculty Student Association and perform other duties as assigned.

• Support the Association in maintaining a safe working environment.

• Be familiar with and strive to follow applicable federal, state, or local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement, and standards.
