Job Description:
The position is for a Distribution System Operator within the Control Center of a utility company.
The main responsibilities include real-time management and grid operation, handling outages and emergencies, providing clearance zones for crews to perform their work, creating switch plans, and maintaining power to the public.
The role involves managing the grid for approximately 300,000 customers in western Wisconsin.
A typical day involves monitoring the grid, managing outages and emergencies, creating and executing switch plans, and coordinating with field crews to isolate and restore equipment.
The work is shift-based, requiring 24/7 monitoring, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
The position supports a team environment but primarily involves individual work.
The key players include field crews, engineers, and upper management.
The operator will also interact with customers during outages.
The resource will support both internal (field crews, engineers, management) and external customers (public utility customers).
The work environment is a mix of individual and collaborative work.
While the operator will work alone during shifts, there is collaboration with field crews and other team members for planning and executing tasks.
Qualifications
Electrical engineering background, experience with grid management
Knowledge of switch plan creation, and familiarity with utility operations and applications like ACMS and OS.
Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, decision-making skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Candidates with experience in electrical engineering, utility operations, or control center operations.
A minimum of two years of relevant experience is preferred.
Electrical engineering certification is preferred.
Prior team lead or supervisory experience is preferred.

Only one Certification Bonus per calendar year may be awarded per employee. Only current, active employees will be eligible to receive this bonus. It will be awarded 90 days after the Synectics office has received documentation confirming the successful completion of the certification.
