0.6FTE- 24 hrs per week

Job Description Summary:

Manages the equipment necessary for providing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support and ensures appropriate patient care through the continuous monitoring of the patient and all related equipment.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

Monitors and adjusts ECMO equipment to maintain proper function.

Collaborates with physicians and nurses to develop treatment plans for patients on ECMO.

Administers medications and blood products as prescribed by the physician.

Performs regular assessments of patient's vital signs and ECMO circuit parameters.

Documents all patient care activities and communicates changes in patient status to the healthcare team.

Provides education to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals on ECMO management and reinforces medical counseling initiated by the ECMO physician.

Education Requirement:

As required by listed licensure and/or certification requirement.

Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, respiratory care, or perfusion technology from an accredited training program, preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

Must be licensed and in good standing with the applicable state of Ohio licensing board and/or certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

Certifications:

Must be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusionand/or licensed and in good standing with the applicable state of Ohio licensing board.

Skills:

Advanced knowledge of principles and techniques of extracorporeal support.

Interpersonal communication skills necessary to work with hospital employees, physicians, patients, family members and community professionals.

Exceptional critical thinking skills and ability to deal with extreme pressure and stress.

Ability to rotate shifts and/or work flexible hours to meet patient care needs.

Experience:

Two years of experience as a registered nurse, registered respiratory therapist or cardiovascular perfusionist, required.

ICU experience, preferred.
