The Senior Director of Financial Reporting, Systems & Technical Accounting is a key Finance leader responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and modernization of SMTC's financial reporting infrastructure. This role oversees all aspects of consolidated financial reporting, technical accounting, internal controls, and system integration. As a strategic partner to the CFO and VP of Finance and other executive leaders, leads enterprise-wide initiatives to streamline reporting, optimize ERP systems, and drive automation, ensuring SMTC remains agile, compliant, and future-ready.
This role is instrumental in delivering timely, accurate, and compliant financial information to internal and external stakeholders while continuously improving the systems and processes that support the company's financial backbone.
Duties:
Provide executive oversight for enterprise-wide financial accounting and consolidated reporting, ensuring timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial results that inform strategic decision-making
Lead the transformation and optimization of financial systems, automation strategies, and reporting infrastructure to enable scalability and efficiency
Set the strategic direction for technical accounting policies, including the interpretation and implementation of complex standards such as ASC 606, ensuring consistent application across global operations
Drive the preparation and delivery of internal and external financial statements and variance analysis, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and relevance for shareholders, lenders, board members, and executive leadership
Ensure compliance with all financial covenants and proactively manage risk by monitoring debt agreements and forecasting compliance under multiple scenarios
Lead the development and execution of company-wide cash flow forecasting and balance sheet planning, ensuring alignment with operational goals and capital strategies
Oversee the strategic evaluation and approval process for capital expenditures, ensuring investment alignment with financial goals and efficient deployment of resources
Serve as the executive liaison to external auditors, managing the year-end audit process and ensuring audit readiness across all business units
Safeguard the integrity of financial reporting by designing, maintaining, and enhancing robust internal control systems in partnership with IT and internal audit
Direct the tax coordination process with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate tax compliance and planning
Champion cross-functional financial process improvements and lead high-impact initiatives that optimize reporting accuracy, reduce cycle times, and improve organizational agility
Architect and execute strategic projects aimed at enhancing operational and financial performance through system-driven solutions and process innovation
Establish and monitor enterprise-level performance metrics to ensure finance operations meet stakeholder needs with accuracy, speed, and insight
Oversee the development and maintenance of financial reporting policies and procedures, ensuring they reflect current regulatory requirements and best-in-class standards
Collaborate with the CFO and VP Finance and provide executive leadership team to build a resilient, future-ready finance organization grounded in integrity, performance, and continuous improvement Education and Experience for the Senior Director of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA preferred
CPA required
5-7 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing consolidated reporting and financial systems in a manufacturing or technology-driven environment
Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting frameworks
Proven experience leading ERP transitions (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and driving digital transformation in finance
Strong grasp of internal control frameworks, compliance, and external audit management
Ability to lead teams through change and complexity while maintaining a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous learning
Executive presence with strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to translate technical financial information to non-financial stakeholders Physical/Mental Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while using a computer, phone, or other office equipment.
Occasional travel to company facilities, conferences, or meetings, which may involve walking, standing, and lifting small items (e.g., luggage or materials).
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both in writing and verbally, with team members, senior leadership, auditors, and external stakeholders.
Ability to operate standard office equipment such as a computer, printer, and telephone.
Ability to see and read financial reports, documents, and electronic communications, as well as hear and respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
Strong cognitive abilities, including problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills to manage complex financial systems, reporting, and compliance requirements.
Ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment, often under time constraints, while ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting.
Ability to focus on complex financial data, review reports, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while minimizing errors.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, lead initiatives, and drive organizational improvements through clear communication and leadership.
Ability to adapt to changing business needs and drive organizational change, including financial systems transformation and implementation
