Job Description
Position Summary:
The CNC Programmer – 5-Axis Milling is responsible for programming complex multi-axis CNC machines using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, NX, Fusion 360, or similar) to produce precision components that meet strict quality standards. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in 5-axis programming, a strong understanding of GD&T, and the ability to optimize tool paths for efficiency and precision.Key Responsibilities:
Develop and optimize CNC programs for 5-axis milling centers based on engineering drawings, 3D models, and customer specifications.
Select tools, cutting parameters, and fixturing strategies to ensure dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and production efficiency.
Conduct simulations and toolpath verifications to minimize programming errors and potential machine collisions.
Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and quality assurance personnel to support first-article inspections and production runs.
Interpret blueprints, GD&T symbols, and 3D CAD models to ensure all requirements are met.
Troubleshoot machining issues related to programming, setup, and tooling.
Maintain documentation of CNC programs, setup instructions, and tooling sheets.
Assist with continuous improvement initiatives, including cycle time reductions, scrap reduction, and process reliability enhancements.
Stay current with advancements in CAM software, cutting tools, and machining strategies.Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in machining or manufacturing technology preferred.
Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in CNC programming for 5-axis milling machines.
Proficiency with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Siemens NX, SolidCAM, or similar).
Solid understanding of G-code, M-code, and machine tool functions.
Strong knowledge of materials (e.g., aluminum, stainless steel, titanium) and cutting tool technologies.
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Manufacturing floor and office setting.
Must be able to stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
May require wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
