Position Overview:
The purpose of the CAD Drafter position at Gasser Chair is to create, revise, and maintain detailed technical drawings and documentation used in the design and manufacturing of seating products. This role is responsible for translating conceptual designs and engineering input into precise 2D and 3D CAD models and technical documentation in alignment with company standards and customer specifications.
Drafting & Modeling: Prepare accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for seating components, assemblies, and product variations based on engineering sketches, design input, or redlines.
Drawing Revisions: Update existing drawings to reflect design changes, improvements, or customer-specific modifications, ensuring version control and traceability.
BOM Support: Collaborate with engineering and purchasing to assist in the generation and maintenance of bills of materials (BOMs) in the ERP system.
Manufacturing Support: Produce clear, accurate, and complete fabrication and assembly drawings to support the production team.
New Product Development: Assist in the design documentation process for prototypes and new product lines by creating initial drawings, renderings, and exploded views.
Design Library Maintenance: Maintain and organize the CAD drawing library, ensuring data integrity, proper naming conventions, and archival of obsolete files.
Collaboration: Coordinate closely with engineers, manufacturing staff, and sales to ensure design intent, manufacturability, and customer requirements are met.
File Management: Use and manage files within the company's PLM or file management systems, ensuring consistent documentation practices.
Standardization: Adhere to internal drafting standards and actively contribute to improving drawing consistency and best practices.
Quality & Compliance: Ensure all drawings meet company quality standards and support safety, regulatory, and ergonomic requirements.
Qualifications:
Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field.
Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar programs (SolidWorks preferred).
Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret technical data, blueprints, and design requirements.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as metal fabrication, upholstery, and woodworking is preferred.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple drawing projects and revisions simultaneously.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and sales departments.
Experience with ERP or PLM systems is a plus.
Ability to work independently and under direction, meeting deadlines and managing priorities.
Physical Requirements:
The CAD Drafter at Gasser Chair is expected to perform job duties in an office environment with occasional visits to the production floor. The role requires the ability to sit and work at a computer workstation for extended periods. Occasional standing, walking, or lifting objects up to 25 lbs may be necessary when visiting production areas or reviewing physical prototypes. Regular use of computer and office equipment is required.
