Job Description

To safely, economically and efficiently install, maintain, test and calibrate as needed, all assigned equipment owned or to be maintained by the Cooperative. On a daily basis, the Substation Apparatus Technician Apprentice will work closely with the Manager of Substation and Facility Maintenance, and the Substation Apparatus Working Foreman, keeping them informed of operation problems, personnel issues and other items of interest or general knowledge. The Substation Apparatus Technician Apprentice shall be accountable for parts and material needed, equipment and supplies used in performance of duties.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Enrollment and completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program which is recognized by the State Apprenticeship Council. Extended practical on the job experience may be substituted in lieu of meeting formal apprenticeship training requirements.

Working knowledge of the following testing equipment: Relay test set, meter standard, phase angle meter, power quality test equipment and oscilloscope.

Must be prepared to perform maintenance on a call-out basis.

Ability and initiative to carry out work assignments.

Have a good safety record.

Be physically fit for the work of the trade.

Have a minimum of a high school education or its equivalent and shall furnish the AEPCO Joint Apprenticeship Committee with a transcript of high school courses, grade or other conclusive evidence of a proper educational background.

Agree to abide by all decisions of the AEPCO Joint Apprenticeship Committee.

Successfully pass prescribed test approved by AEPCO Joint Apprenticeship Committee.

In addition to basic qualifications, an employee interested in Apprentice training will be required to take certain tests designated by the AEPCO Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Job related tests will be administered as necessary to meet apprentice qualifications of each trade.

Applicants shall be at least 18 years of age.

Able to obtain CDL license if required by the craft.

Shall possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver License (Class A) within one year from date of hire.

Pre-placement testing is required to move on in the hiring process for the Apprentice position. Candidates will be emailed with testing dates/times a week after the close of the job. Testing will take place in-person at our Benson office and will consist of one reading section and 2 mathematic sections. If candidates pass, then an online mechanical aptitude test will be required. Interviews will be scheduled after that.
