Role: Controls Engineer
Location: Alpharetta, GA - Hybrid
Position Overview
The Controls Engineer will design, test, and commission custom switchgear and generator control systems. This role is a backfill position and involves executing and supporting the design, testing, manufacturing, and commissioning of low and medium voltage switchgear that controls multiple generators. The engineer will work alongside a team of 5-8 engineers and report to the Engineering Manager in an office/air-conditioned manufacturing facility. Job Responsibilities
Execute and support the design, test, manufacture, and commissioning of low and medium voltage switchgear.
Provide direction to CAD designers for creating wiring and assembly drawings.
Interact with internal and external customers to accomplish project milestones.
Create bill of materials for generator paralleling switchgear controls in ERP system.
Develop PLC programs for control of generator paralleling switchgear.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Candidate Requirements
Education & Experience Required
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred.
5-7 years of experience required.
Internships will be considered.
Willing to accept a 2-year degree with 7+ years of experience.
Willing to accept a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience. Technical Skills Required
Ability to create PLC programs using IEC 61131 PLC Programming languages (Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text).
Experience in designing, testing, and commissioning control systems with different PLC controllers.
Expert knowledge on at least one PLC platform: Schneider Momentum, M340, M580, AB Control, Compact Logix, Woodward MSLC, DSLC, Easy Gen, LS5 Architecture.
Ability to interpret customer specifications and drawings.
Customize PLC software and hardware templates. Technical Skills Desired
Understanding of NEC, UL 508, UL 891, UL 1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, and ANSI requirements.
Knowledge of protective relays and their applications in generator and utility protection. Soft Skills
