Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as a designated student services coordinator (MHS/BCMS, AHS/CMS, HHS/OKMS, PHHS/LMS). Specifically, the coordinator works with schools, students, and families to process homebound services requests, support transitions to and from the alternative school placement, coordinate attendance recovery plans, assist in planning summer support for students to include identification, communication with summer school leaders, and families. Monitor students enrolled in Virtual Virginia serving as the liaison, progress monitor, identify challenges, provide support, and communicate with families.

The Student Success Coordinator plays a critical role in assisting with access to education for students with unique needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Homebound Services for the corridor to include:

Use of Virtual Virginia (long-term homebound students)

Coordination of instruction to meet student needs

Monitors student attendance, progress, and engagement in homebound instruction

Serves as liaison between school and home to communicate student expectations and progress with school administration.

Supports 504 process to include:

Ensures compliance and meeting deadlines, appropriate notification of meetings, communicates/delivers 504 plans to all teachers.

Supports transition from The Georgetown School (TGS) to zoned school and from zoned school to TGS

Leads transition team to include:

Serves as liaison to ensure a smooth transition (instruction, transportation) to TGS and back to the home school

Serves as liaison between school counseling departments, administration, and special education departments, as indicated.

Oversee implementation of Virtual Virginia at assigned schools:

Serves as liaison between school and home to communicate student expectations and progress with school administration.

Supervises implementation of attendance recovery plans.

Connects students and families to community and school-based services and resources as needed.

Communicates events for students on the caseload for this role that impacts individual student performance to relevant school staff.

Supports school administration with the identification and communication for students who require support during summer.

Performs other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor in accordance with the school division's policies and practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively and professionally with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, educators, and healthcare professionals.

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing a variety of technology platforms, including data management systems, communication tools, and productivity software. Ability to quickly learn new applications, troubleshoot common issues, and effectively integrate technology into daily workflows to enhance efficiency and collaboration.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Commitment to supporting the needs of students with disabilities or medical conditions in the educational setting.

General knowledge of compulsory attendance statutes of Virginia, student 504 plans, federal and state laws governing the education of all students,computers, software and other relevant technology.

Ability to: work with students with a variety of educational backgrounds and needs; foster relationships with families; maintain professionalism; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.

Strong understanding regarding alternative education principles, student-centered learning, differentiated instruction and fostering a positive school culture. Knowledge and success with implementing strategies to support student success.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in education, social work, behavioral science, criminal justice, or a related field

Valid renewable Virginia Teacher License

Preferred:

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university

At least 3 years of recent successful full-time experience as a teacher or licensed support staff with preference given to experience at the secondary level.

Relevant work experience regarding varied educational backgrounds and needs, including but not limited to students with disabilities or medical conditions.

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Regular contact is made with students, teachers, school administrators, parents and the community. Personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Work is typically performed in a school setting including classrooms, cafeteria and recreational areas. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine which may require a wide range of motion to include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, light lifting of up to 20 lbs, grasping and manipulating. May involve repetitive motions and long periods of sitting at a desk or computer. Occasional attendance to school related activities throughout the state is necessary.
