Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, the Middle School Counselor supports students, families, educators, and administrators by providing academic, career, and social-emotional guidance. The counselor facilitates student development through career exploration, educational planning, and personal growth, while interpreting assessment tools and helping students set achievable goals.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through interpretation of standardized tests and other relevant data, supporting the development of individualized educational and career plans.

Guides students in course selection and subject planning aligned with career interests and future aspirations.

Supports students with college admissions, scholarship applications, and exploration of employment opportunities.

Collaborates with administrators, teachers, and support staff to identify student needs, including those with special education requirements, and to promote understanding of counseling services.

Researches educational and career pathways and partners with educators, college representatives, business leaders, and community organizations to connect students with relevant opportunities.

Provides personal counseling that fosters student self-awareness, maturity, and emotional resilience.

Maintains current knowledge of educational trends and best practices by participating in professional development activities and networking with higher education and business communities.

Encourages family involvement in the educational process and promotes effective communication between home and school.

Performs additional duties as assigned by the Principal or designated central office administrators.

Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders. Qualifications Profile

Certification/License

Valid Idaho Certification as a Guidance Counselor or Pupil Personnel Services Certificate Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field (Education, Counseling, Psychology, etc.)

Master's degree in School Counseling or related area preferred Experience

Prior successful teaching or counseling experience at the middle school level preferred
