Administers, monitors and continuously ensures that all operations conform to HSE requirements and maintains high safety standards
Carries out gas freeing of vessels. Issue of various permits-to-work and identification of unsafe acts, unsafe conditions both onboard vessels and in workshops
Inspects vessels/ workshops with Safety Committee members to identify hazards and suggest remedial measures
Investigates "Lost-time' accidents, incidents on vessels and recommendation of measures to prevent recurrence
Carries out maintenance and upgrading of fire fighting equipment in the department
Carries out rescue and fire fighting operations
Ensures the safety of personnel through compliance with Occupational Safety and Health and Environmental Regulations
Ensures that Health, Safety & Environmental operating procedures are followed and counsel employees about compliance as necessary
Participates in the preparation of Safe work, Environmental Control and Emergency procedures
Ensures that all Health, Safety and Environmental & Quality plans are followed
Any other associated tasks and responsibilities assigned from time to time
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related disciplines
Minimum 3 years' working experience in a shipyard in a similar capacity
Need to possess sound knowledge in the use of the various safety equipment, gas monitor, fire engine etc. knowledge of the application of the permit-to-work system
Knowledge of the Shipyard's Safety Management systems, Environmental Management System and statutory requirement
Able to communicate and get along well with diverse personalities
Able to make decision, render judgement and take appropriate action
Prepared to requirement. work late hours and also on weekends and public holidays should there be a requirement
Resourceful, able to work under pressure, able to adapt to changes on short notice responsible, committed, team player and customer oriented
