Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned scientific research organization located on the North Shore of Long Island, is hiring a Catering Prep Assistant Coordinator.

This individual will assist in producing & expediting cold food preparation tasks to support Events & Catering.

Position Responsibilities

Assist Catering Chef in food preparation for events, dining & catering services.

Stand in for Catering Chef during absence.

Contribute to developing catering menus and maintaining recipe database.

Contribute to insuring that menus, recipes and procedures are followed by catering preparation staff

Train and supervise full, part time and seasonal catering prep employees.

Insure cold preparation staff follows proper sanitation procedures.

Interact in a courteous manner with clientele, fellow employees and other supervisors.

Provides support to the Chef Catering services including:

Purchasing of produce & baked goods

Job performance feedback

Ensuring that the administrative and operational policies and procedures of the department and the Laboratory are followed.

Perform and insure secure close up of work area / facility at the end of a shift / work day Position Requirements

EDUCATION:

High School diploma, or equivalent.

Sanitation Certificate EXPERIENCE:

Five years' experience in restaurant and/or hotel management. SKILLS:

Ability to speak and understand the Spanish language is helpful.

Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.

Work scheduling.

Vendors and sources of supply.

Cold food preparation and serving.

Proper sanitation procedures.

Organization skills.

Diplomacy and tact.

Social etiquette.

Telephone etiquette.

Computer literate.

Operation of a departmental computer database.

Familiarity with the facilities on the Laboratory grounds.
