Job Title: Director of IT, Infrastructure (Hands-On)
Location: Liverpool, NY
Job Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000 annually, depending on experience
About the Role:
We are seeking a hands-on Director of IT to lead our infrastructure team while actively contributing to the design, implementation, and optimization of our network and cloud environments. This is a dual-role opportunity combining leadership with deep technical involvement. You will guide a team of engineers, manage key infrastructure initiatives, and ensure our systems are secure, scalable, and high-performing.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers; provide guidance, feedback, and professional development.
Architect and implement robust infrastructure solutions across Azure, on-premise systems, and network platforms.
Manage IT infrastructure projects from start to finish, ensuring timelines, budgets, and goals are met.
Develop and enforce infrastructure standards, security protocols, and automation strategies.
Oversee system administration of servers (physical and virtual), firewalls, switches, VPNs, and other critical infrastructure.
Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and maintain detailed documentation for resolution and training.
Identify and implement new technologies to enhance system performance and efficiency.
Collaborate with executive leadership to align IT infrastructure with business goals.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience:
10+ years of progressive IT infrastructure experience
5+ years in a leadership or management role
Strong history of project ownership and team mentorship in fast-paced settings
Technical Skills:
Deep expertise in Azure cloud services and virtualization platforms (e.g., Nutanix)
Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, VPN, VLANs, SD-WAN)
Experience with firewall configuration and management
Proficiency in scripting/automation (e.g., PowerShell)
Familiarity with RDBMS environments and system performance tuning
Certifications (preferred):
Microsoft Azure certifications
Network or security certifications (e.g., CCNA, CISSP)
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership and communication skills
Collaborative mindset with a hands-on approach
Ability to manage priorities across technical and business teams
