Toyota Connected’s Labs team is looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer capable of using machine learning and statistical techniques to create state-of-the-art solutions for non-trivial, and arguably, unsolved problems. Responsibilities:
Design & Implement model architectures destined for both the edge and the cloud, optimizing for OTA updates and performance on an embedded device
Leverage new-age multimodal (text + image) LLM capabilities to support novel product features
Drive adoption of best practices across organizations
Write maintainable, extensible, tested code, while complying with coding standards
Work with Product Owners to define the KPIs for machine learning projects
Mentor, guide, and train more junior team members
Stay abreast of developments in research methodology and changing technologies in the marketplace and proactively identify applications of these latest developments to improve existing methods
Prepare and present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
Work within the constraints of time, budget, and resources capacities to align with Toyota’s global vision
Develop and foster collaborative relationships with product, business, and engineering teams to effectively serve our customer needs
Lead moderately complex ML projects (i.e., projects that are larger in size/scope/risk, require moderate organizational navigation and/or have some intricacies such as ambiguity or evolving contexts) under limited direction of Manager/Product Owner
Regularly set direction for several aspects of model training (CI/CD, pipelines, data analysis, model architecture)
Proactively identify team ML needs/gaps, plan, and leads implementation/planning
Engage in all aspects of model training (CI/CD, pipelines, data analysis, model architecture)
Qualifications:
5+ years of production experience in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural-Language Processing (NLP), and/or Computer Vision (CV)
Solid experience with NLP
Ability to write clean, concise, tested, maintainable code in Python
Experience with a strongly typed programming language (Rust, Go, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python)
Solid production experience with Deep Learning using TensorFlow and/or PyTorch
Strong fundamentals in problem solving, algorithm design and complexity analysis
Ability to design and implement machine learning pipelines in a production environment
Experience working in a team oriented, Agile software engineering environment
Experience with deployment including knowledge of CI/CD, containerization, and related concepts
Proven ability to learn and apply new technologies, programming practices, patterns, and methods
Ability to train more junior team members in multiple Machine Learning and Deep Learning concepts
Ability to go “paper to production” not only implementing novel deep learning concepts
Deep understanding of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to drive strategic decision-making and innovation
Strong decision-making skills with the ability to analyze data, assess risks, and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment
Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify challenges, develop creative solutions, and implement effective strategies
Experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and product owners
Experience taking ownership of assigned projects and tasks, proactively driving them to completion while ensuring accountability for quality and deadlines.
Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, balancing deadlines, resources, and stakeholder expectations in a fast-paced environment
Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks
Results-driven with a strong track record of setting goals, executing strategies, and delivering measurable outcomes
Skilled in resolving conflicts through effective communication, mediation, and problem-solving to foster a positive and productive work environment but putting them into the product itself.
