Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) is seeking to fill a seasonal position in their Maintenance Department.
The Maintenance Department at NKI is charged with supporting a complex research campus with unique maintenance requirements over and above normal, routine building services.
Reliable and regular attendance is expected.
Job primarily will be to provide assistance to Maintenance and Research staff in removal of surplus item (including but not limited to equipment, furniture, chemicals, and other waste materials). JOB DUTIES: Under the direction of the department supervisor, these individuals will perform a variety of activities for the maintenance support of NKI's physical plant.Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following:• Load, unload, and otherwise physically handle equipment, furniture, supplies, chemical waste etc.
• Perform a variety of minor maintenance related activities including assisting journeyman level staff in all aspects of facility maintenance.
• Assist with general upkeep and grounds maintenance activities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: • Must possess the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Working knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
• Ability and willingness to perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
• Must have the ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and moving heavy objects, walking, stooping, standing, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, working at heights on scaffolds and platforms and disposal of surplus materials/equipment• Ability to work well independently.
Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment.
2) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
