Within Verisign, our team is responsible for designing, building and maintaining large-scale, high-throughput (millions requests per second) data products and services delivering actionable operational and business intelligence. To help us advance our products, we are looking for a skilled Mid-level Data Engineer.

An ideal candidate should have a strong passion for all aspects of data engineering (ingestion, storage, processing, visualization), be fluent in Java, and be eager to learn as needed. They should have an understanding of fundamentals, including core Computer Science concepts accompanied by hands-on data engineering experience, ideally involving large-scale distributed systems.

The candidate will be involved in all aspects of data engineering, including ideation, design, implementation, deployment, customer onboarding, and support. This implies regular cross-team collaboration with Verisign Data Platform, Business, Infrastructure, Engineering, Security, and Operation Teams. We expect the candidate to take full ownership of the data products, regularly interacting with the internal customers, proactively identifying, prioritizing, and delivering on their common data needs.

Required Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar technical major or equivalent work experience

5+ years relevant Data Engineering experience

Experience designing, developing, and optimizing real-time and batch data processing pipelines using Akka Streams and Spark

Experience developing and maintaining custom Java, Scala and Python components to facilitate insights from the processed data via transformation, normalization, and enrichment

Experience creating interactive dashboards for internal customers delivering insights from real-time and batch-processed data stored in Druid, Hive and other databases

Preferred Experience:

Experience developing provisioning code to deploy components on Kubernetes

Experience developing automation for CI/CD and common tasks using Jenkins

Ability to ensure stability of pipelines and components through observability and alerting

Ability to identify and address pipeline performance bottlenecks

Ability to troubleshoot complex data processing issues in large, distributed environments

Staying up to date with the data engineering best practices and industry standards, focusing on hybrid cloud environments

This position is based in our Reston, VA office

The pay range is $108,900 - $147,300.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
