Kootenai County is seeking a dependable and professional Courthouse Security Screener to help safeguard court facilities, employees, jurors, and the public. This non-lethal security position provides essential protection and assistance across county buildings, serving as a visible deterrent against threats, emergencies, and disruptions.

Whether it's assisting jurors, monitoring security systems, or responding to incidents, you’ll be the first line of defense in keeping our justice system secure and running smoothly.

What You’ll Do:

• Operate security screening equipment (X-ray machines, magnetometers, hand wands) to monitor entry and exit points and screen for weapons, drugs, and contraband.

• Patrol court facilities and county grounds with non-lethal arms, maintaining a visible security presence and assisting individuals with disabilities when needed.

• Respond to emergencies by evacuating buildings, securing areas, and coordinating with emergency responders.

• Monitor and operate surveillance systems, alarms, and communication equipment; conduct routine security checks on facility access points.

• Support Court Security Officers during prisoner movements, including clearing pathways and issuing safety commands.

• Serve as a courteous and professional point of contact for the public by answering questions and offering directions.

• Maintain respectful, positive interactions with the public, staff, elected officials, and courthouse personnel.

• Retrieve and provide surveillance footage for law enforcement or legal proceedings as requested.

What We’re Looking For:

High school diploma or GED

At least 12 months of related experience and/or training

Excellent multi-tasking and problem-solving skills, especially in high-pressure situations

Valid Idaho driver’s license and insurability to drive county vehicles

Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests and a criminal background check

No felony convictions or history of domestic abuse

Physically and verbally capable of detaining individuals who bypass security checkpoints

Familiarity with security technology and tools, including:

Handcuffs, Pepper Spray, Tasers, 2-way radios, and surveillance systems
