ALL ANSWERS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION PROVIDED ON YOUR CIVIL SERVICE APPLICATION.

Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 33, Step 1 of the union (OCSEA) Pay Range Schedule ($32.08 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($33.64) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

BACKGROUND CHECK NOTICE:

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Position Qualifications:

Registration as environmental health specialist pursuant to ORC 3776 & in addition to proceeding, must meet one of following options appropriate to area to be assigned\:

-Graduated from an accredited college or university with at least a baccalaureate degree, including at least forty-five quarter units or thirty semester units of science courses approved by the director; and completed at least 30 months of full-time employment as an environmental health specialist; must be able to provide own transportation.

-Or Graduated from an accredited college or university with at least a baccalaureate degree, completed a major in environmental health science which included an internship program approved by the director; and completed at least 18 months of full-time employment as an environmental health specialist; must be able to provide own transportation.

-Or Graduated from an accredited college or university with a degree higher than a baccalaureate degree, including at least forty-five quarter units or thirty semester units of science courses approved by the director; and completed at least 18 months of full-time employment as an environmental health specialist; must be able to provide own transportation.

-Or 6 mos. exp. as Environmental Health Specialist 1, 65731, in environmental health specialty to be assigned; must be able to provide own transportation.

Note\: Pursuant to Ohio Administrative Code Rule 4736-8-01(C)\: Science courses approved by the board shall be in biology, chemistry, physics, geology, mathematics, or statistics and be applicable to the practice of environmental health science.

Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's or advanced degree in biology, chemistry, physics, geology, environmental engineering or mathematics

Experience providing technical assistance to local health districts, industry and/or the public related to private water systems and water treatment products

Experience evaluating and investigating verbal and written complaints related to private water systems

Experience collecting and interpreting technical data

Experience conducting on-site inspections (e.g., construction, compliance, operations, finals, nuisance, water quality, or contamination investigations)

Experience conducting program surveys for compliance/enforcement

Experience with state laws and regulations on water treatment systems

Experience in developing written guidance or factsheets for a range of audiences

Experience reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating water treatment system designs, installations and/or operations

What You'll Do:

The Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection is seeking a candidate to fill our Environmental Health Specialist 2 position. This position will function as a technical expert in the water systems program. This position will:

review, analyze and evaluate verbal and written complaints related to private water systems for general investigations and enforcement

assess and determine severity and urgency of complaint and appropriate response on the basis of applicable regulations and procedures

coordinate and conduct investigations and/or refer complaints to lower-level environmental health specialists to conduct investigation

review registration and program compliance activities of private water system contractors and initiates and conducts enforcement actions for violations of OAC and ORC

provide technical assistance, consultation and training to local health departments, state agencies, grantees, contractors, industry and general public in area of private water systems

coordinate and conduct statewide training and consultation

prepare technical reports and bulletins and assist in preparing procedural guidelines
