POSITION SUMMARY

Manages the GC Archives historical archival collections, the Rebok Memorial Library, and personal collections which are used by both external and internal researchers in the ASTR Research Center. Assists supervisor and liaises with digital records manager in records digitization. Assists director with historical research on SDA church. Researches and publishes widely, including creating finding aids. Promotes knowledge and use of Archives amongst GC and other leaders, church-members, and the scholarly community. Facilitates positive and effective communications with other GC departments and outside personnel.

Full-time exempt position with benefits

Remuneration Range: 83-96% ($77k - $89k annually)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Organizes and manages private and discrete collections housed within ASTR.

Accessions new collections and materials and unprocessed materials into the Records Center.

Assesses and resolves issues relating to preservation of historical materials

Supervises care, maintenance and continuance of the Rebok Memorial Library and the ASTR Research Center, including formulating and implementing collection policies and cataloging books

Supervises researchers using Archives and Library Collections in the ASTR Research Center

Oversees use of Rebok Memorial Library/ASTR Research Center by visitors and GC staff.

Responds to inquiries for information on ASTR holdings.

Conserves items in Archives photographic collections and drafts proposals to supervisor and Director for ongoing digitization of photographs.

Collaborates with supervisor and Digital Records Manager to facilitate transfers between the Records Center and Archives per established departmental protocols.

Takes lead role in preparing the following - Finding Aids to GC Archives collections, online training materials relating to the historical materials in the GC Archives and Library and the “Online Archives” website.

Assists Director and works with other staff members in preparing and presenting outreach and educational material, especially on historical information, for television broadcasts, podcasts, social media, online education, and church publications as requested.

Promotes ASTR through the writing and publishing of articles on Adventist history in scholarly journals and websites.

Assists Digital Records Manager with the quality assurance checks and metadata capture of digitized material.

Assists supervisor in archives/records center accreditations by liaising with other denominational archives, records centers, and libraries with historical holdings.

Advises on and assists with external archival accreditations as required by supervisor.

Supervises department staff, interns/student workers/other temporary workers as assigned.

Contributes to research projects as assigned by director.

Contributes to planning and executing historical exhibits as assigned.

Trains union, conference/mission, and institutional leaders in archiving and records management.

Must maintain a regular and reliable work schedule

Must be a member in regular standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree in history, or library science. Master’s degree in Archiving, Library Science, or Information Management preferred.

Must have five years of experience or an equivalent combination of course work and experience with working knowledge of managing collections.

Training and/or experience in online searching and cataloging is required. A background of supervisory and managerial experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of principles, policies and beliefs of the General Conference and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Well-developed knowledge and skills in archival processing and in research methods.

Must have the ability to work under pressure and successfully manage multiple projects.

Working knowledge of web research methods and technology, with preference for knowledge of at least one of the database platforms used by ASTR (SharePoint, ModX, Versatile).

Well-developed interpersonal skills required.

Strong English language skills in verbal and written form.

Absolute confidentiality required at all times; required assistance in facilitating strong communications among departmental staff, other departments and outside personnel.

Strong skills in organization and management of large volume of knowledge including in digital format.
