Plastics Extruder Operator

Job Description

This role is the entry-level Operator position responsible for ensuring the productivity and quality of assigned extruder operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain compliance with Company and plant safety policies and procedures at all times.

Complete all required annual training sessions.

Understand and proficiently operate dryer mechanics.

Break down, clean, set up, and start extruders according to established procedures.

Perform tooling changes (setups) on dies and safely restart extruders.

Identify and comprehend shop orders, key dimension sheets, and related drawings.

Operate downstream equipment effectively.

Identify types of materials used in part production.

Recognize and understand various screw and head types.

Familiar with the mechanics of vacuum loading systems and blending units.

Produce parts of medium difficulty independently, meeting quality specifications and production rates.

Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout shifts (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear).

Ensure correct material usage per Shop Order to produce quality parts.

Develop proficiency in machine tear down and setup procedures.

Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Perform other duties as assigned by the management team.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Working knowledge of the extrusion process and materials is highly desirable.

Above-average communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to follow directions and adhere to established processes.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent schedule and priority changes.

Physical Demands:

Occasional lifting and moving of objects up to 50 lbs.

Extended periods of walking, standing, and performing job functions on concrete floors.

Work Environment:

Manufacturing environment with varying temperatures (cold or hot based on external conditions).

Exposure to dust, odors, fumes, and noise typical of extrusion and fabrication processes.

This position may require occasional overtime and flexibility in work hours based on production demands.
