Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Database Administrator to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The ideal candidate will become part of Peraton’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Datacenter Consolidation and Cloud Optimization (DCCO) program providing database architecture support to the DHS Homeland Advanced Recognition Technology (HART) biometric system. The Database team maintains the HART Database by installing and configuring database, data migration, monitoring system performance, resolving customer tickets within JIRA and supporting system incident troubleshooting calls. Database members closely interact with the government customer to achieve system objectives, provide ticket updates, and system status updates. Database members are expected to be on-call for a week at a time approximately 6 – 9 times a year.

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

Be responsible for the installation and configuration of new software and hardware, including the server network, devices, and firewalls.

Be responsible for monitoring system performance, IT system operations and storage utilization.

Plan for necessary hardware or software upgrades to support system growth.

Manage user accounts and assets and assign and update security permissions

Provide support with escalated help desk requests.

Identify root cause and documenting troubleshooting steps to resolution.

Work independently and in team settings to achieve key project/program objectives and deliverables.

Administer and maintain AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and Oracle database environments.

Design, implement, and optimize database schemas and query performance

Execute data migration projects from Oracle to PostgreSQL

Implement and manage table partitioning strategies

Setup comprehensive database monitoring systems and alerting

Create and maintain Entity-Relationship Diagrams (ERDs)

Develop and optimize ETL processes

Manage database upgrades and version transitions

Support operational maintenance tasks and troubleshooting

Track and resolve database-related issues using Jira

Perform regular database health checks and performance analysis

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

High School diploma and 6 years of experience.

U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. government agency level clearance (the DHS EOD, which you must have prior to starting)

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator (Oracle and Postgres)

Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL

Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL configuration, tuning, and optimization

Desired Qualifications:

AWS certification (Solutions Architect, Database Specialty)

Experience with monitoring tools like CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Grafana, or pgBadger

Knowledge of performance tuning and query optimization techniques

Experience with database high availability and disaster recovery strategies

Experience with automation tools for database administration tasks

Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar

Knowledge of database security best practices

Background in agile development environments

Experience with JIRA Ticketing systems preferred

Experience with DevOps and Agile methodologies

Demonstrated experience migrating data from Oracle to PostgreSQL

Expertise in table partitioning strategies in PostgreSQL

Proven ability to set up and configure database monitoring solutions

Experience writing custom monitoring queries and scripts

Experience in creating and maintaining database ERDs

Proficiency with ETL tools and processes

Experience with database upgrade planning and execution

Ability to write and optimize complex SQL queries

Familiarity with Jira for issue tracking and project management

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
