Description
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Advanced Modeling and Simulation Group. This is an entry level position.
This role is primarily to assist in developing and testing machine learning models, implementing algorithm optimizations, and generating reports on analytical findings to inform decision-making processes. Additionally, the selected candidate will help maintain and update databases, ensure data integrity, and collaborate with more senior team members to refine AI/ML projects. SRNL is seeking to fill an early career staff position with an individual who is computationally and analytically oriented. The successful candidate will be familiar with computing and analysis software such as R, Excel, Python, JMP. The candidate is expected to grow in this position and branch into a multidisciplinary role.
Responsibilities
Knowledge, skills, and ability in one or more of the following areas:
Programming languages, such as Python or R, are necessary for data scientists to sort, analyze, and manage large amounts of data (commonly referred to as “big data”)
Statistics and probability
Data wrangling and database management
Machine learning and deep learning
Data visualization
Cloud computing
Interpersonal skills
Supporting interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to plan, design, develop and verify complex systems solutions
Supporting cross-functional engineering teams in developing systems to meet project/program commitments, including support of documentation, deliveries and customer reviews
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BS in Computer Science and/or Data Sciences from and accredited university and 4-6 years of experience.
MS + 3-5 yrs; PhD + 2-4 yrs of relevant experience are also accepted
For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Computer or Data Sciences
Active DOE Q clearance
Strong analytical skills with the ability to manipulate & visualize data
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work on a team
Desire to develop self-directed research programs
