Supervises and directs the Fixed and Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineers, Metallurgist, Rotating Equipment Specialist, and Rotating Equipment Technicians. Primary focus of this group is to improve and ensure the reliability of the site fixed and rotating equipment.

Develops and implements programs to ensure the reliability and safety of fixed and rotating equipment.

Provides leadership and direction to develop and implement equipment reliability programs/procedures.

Champions the reliability efforts in assigned areas of responsibility by providing technical assistance in resolving equipment design, operation, and maintenance problems.

Provides equipment design and repair expertise through research and repair recommendations consistent with applicable industry codes, standards, and specifications.

Provides root cause failure analysis of components including corrosion research, reporting and supervision of metallurgical analysis.

Provides expertise regarding design, fabrication, repair, alteration, inspection, and testing of equipment.

Provides inspection guidance in turnaround planning.

Utilizes reliability tools such as failure calculations, failure evaluations, and cost and risk analysis to evaluate and prioritize reliability issues.

Participates in audits to measure the effectiveness of reliability related activities such as equipment repairs, part quality and failure investigation process.

Assists Operations, Product Control, and Maintenance Departments in developing procedures, training and processes to ensure equipment is operated within its design parameters.

Conducts life cycle cost analysis on new and critical equipment.

Recommends projects and/or studies to Engineering to support overall plant reliability.

Develops cost justification for reliability improvement.

Formulates, implements, maintains, and audits Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Diagnostic Maintenance (PdM) programs.

Supervises Engineering and Specialist support on all rotating equipment for capital projects, for turnaround activities on all major and/or critical rotating equipment.

Performs the supervisory functions of personnel administration, organizational development and salary administration.

Provides assistance with preparation of capital and expense budgets.

Organizational skills.

Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work-related documentation.

Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications.

Skill in providing thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to individuals at all levels within the organization.

Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods.

Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency timeframes.

Ability to cross-train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage in departmental responsibilities.

Ability to work with others to accomplish challenging assignments.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion of tasks within stated time requirements.

Basic skill using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word and Excel).

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Port Arthur Refinery, required.

Bachelor of Science degree (or higher degree) in Mechanical Engineering required.

10 years of specific refinery related experience with exposure and responsibilities in the maintenance/engineering areas required.

5 years of supervisory experience required.
