Summary Position: Bank Street Education Center (the Ed Center) is a division within Bank Street College of Education (the College), created to support Bank Street’s public impact work through external partnerships. The Ed Center’s mission is to disrupt inequities in school systems. The organization is seeking a Managing Director, Advancement & Strategy to support strategic partnership design, concept development, and implementation planning. This role will be responsible for helping the Ed Center design and operationalize key initiatives and support the Vice President and Executive Directors in advancing strategic priorities.
Key relationships: In collaboration with the Vice President of the Education Center, Executive Directors, and cross-functional teams, the Managing Director, Advancement & Strategy will contribute to the success of the Ed Center by managing and executing a broad portfolio of high-priority projects. The Managing Director will be expected to operate with both strategic insight and strong execution skills—moving fluidly between concept development, planning, coordination, and delivery. Core responsibilities include:Drive Initiative Development & Implementation
Partner with the Vice President and Executive Directors to shape new partnership ideas and internal initiatives.
Conduct needs assessments, landscape analyses, and synthesis of insights to inform initiative design.
Translate ideas into operational plans, learning agendas, and implementation tools that guide high-quality work.
Supervise and develop a team, including one staff member and additional consultants and/or interns, contingent upon funding;
Support teams in managing complex, multi-stream initiatives with clarity and consistency. Advance Funding Opportunities & External Visibility
Collaborate with the College’s VP of Business Development and the Development team to identify and pursue funding for Ed Center priorities.
Draft and contribute to compelling proposals, concept notes, decks, and strategic pitches.
Help steward funder relationships and ensure project concepts are grounded in both strategic alignment and feasibility.
Represent the Ed Center’s work in external conversations and materials when appropriate. Lead Strategic Project Design & Execution
Develop and manage complex projects that support the Ed Center’s strategic priorities, from initial concept through execution.
Design project structures, timelines, and processes that enable smooth implementation across teams.
Balance long-term strategic planning with rapid response to emerging priorities or opportunities.
Ensure clarity of goals, alignment across teams, and effective tracking of progress toward outcomes.
Manage Special Projects & Provide Executive Support
Lead and contribute to time-sensitive, high-priority projects on behalf of the Vice President.
Provide executive-level planning, synthesis, and support to advance divisional and institutional priorities.
Create high-quality briefing materials, memos, and analyses to support decision-making and communication. Support Internal Strategy & Cross-Team Collaboration
Help build systems and structures to improve how strategic work is tracked, coordinated, and shared across the Ed Center.
Facilitate alignment across programs, research, and operations to ensure strategic coherence and learning.
Contribute to a culture of reflection, continuous improvement, and collaboration across the division.
Qualifications:
Skills & Knowledge:
Deep understanding of PK-12 education, equity in education, and the landscape of school partnerships.
Excellent strategic planning, systems thinking, and project design skills
Strong business development skills, with experience scaling nonprofit programs or initiatives.
Track record of success in writing and reporting on complex grants;
Strong relationship-building, facilitation, and communication skills.
Proven ability to support the implementation of complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various levels of an organization, experienced educators, and district teams;
Proficiency in Google Suite tools and collaboration platforms such as Slack.
Experiences:
8+ years of experience in strategic planning, education consulting, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.
Experience leading cross-functional implementation and managing complex initiatives.
Background in progressive teaching and learning;
Ability to design and manage complex and multiple projects independently;
Background in progressive teaching and learning or education reform.
Demonstrated ability to design systems or processes to solve a problem;
Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environments with shifting priorities.
Flexibility in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines;
Experience engaging in conversations around race, equity, and identity;
Master’s degree in education or related field.

Salary Range: $135,000 - 150,000

After June 2026, the position is contingent upon the availability of additional funds.
