Job Description
Scope of Position
An advanced technology company is seeking an experienced Guidance, Navigation, and Controls (GNC) Engineer specializing in Navigation. This role involves working on a collaborative team of engineers to design and implement cutting-edge navigation solutions for precision-guided systems. The position focuses on developing, evaluating, and testing navigation algorithms and systems from concept through deployment.
Responsibilities
Design, evaluate, and optimize navigation systems, target tracking filters, and guidance algorithms for mid-course and terminal phases.
Integrate and assess data from inertial measurement units (IMUs), GPS receivers, radar systems, and strap-down seekers.
Support flight tests, including data reduction, verification, and performance assessment.
Apply advanced estimation techniques such as Kalman filtering for accurate navigation and target state solutions.
Perform digital signal processing and assess navigation system errors to validate sensor and filter performance.
Generate pre-flight performance predictions and adjust models based on post-flight analyses.
Develop and maintain software tools to evaluate flight conditions using nominal and Monte Carlo simulations.
Document and present design evaluations, performance reports, and technical analyses.
Qualifications
Masters Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Applied Physics.
8+ years of experience in guidance, navigation, or controls theory, including testing and evaluation.
Proven experience modeling flight systems and subsystems such as IMUs, GPS/GNSS, radar systems, and launch platforms.
Expertise in developing advanced aided navigation solutions using strap-down inertial measurement units (IMUs).
Experience conducting systems engineering trade studies and sensitivity analyses.
Strong proficiency in modeling and simulation using Simulink and MATLAB.
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Applied Physics.
Technical leadership experience within the GNC discipline.
Experience with stability analysis, requirements definition, and mission effectiveness evaluation.
Demonstrated ability to develop, test, and refine flight algorithms (e.g., navigation filters, air data estimation, and guidance algorithms).
Experience managing engineering tasks, including schedule and budget tracking.
Proficiency in C/C++ programming.
Experience collaborating with external stakeholders and presenting technical findings.
