Job Description

The mission of the library is to procure and provide access to educational resources to support teaching and student learning. The Library Technician position provides technical library work to ensure quality service and effective communication to students, faculty and staff-in the library. This position assists the librarian by helping all library patrons in the use of library catalogs, databases, and indexes to locate books and other materials and by answering questions that require only brief consultation of standard reference. This position compiles records, sort and shelves books, remove or repair damaged books and checks materials in and out of the circulation process. This position also replaces materials in the shelving area, fills interlibrary loan requests received from inside and outside of the college and does copy cataloging of library materials in all formats.

Salary Range:

$21.04 -$29.24/hourly; $43,932-$61,053/annually

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of library classification system(s) and standard library reference tools sufficient to assist clients in locating materials to support academic learning.

Ability to operate personal computers, use various software and web based applications, and other office equipment to locate catalog information, word processing documents, complete forms and reports.

Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with clients of varied educational levels and backgrounds sufficient to determine and respond to their informational needs; to train, direct and evaluate the work of student staff; and to assist the professional library staff to maintain the library collection according to library needs.

Ability to apply and support detailed coding and cataloging systems sufficient to create tracking for new print and non-print library acquisitions and locate and replace existing materials.

Preferred Qualification

Associate’s degree

Library Science related course work.

One year of experience working in a library.

Demonstrated cross-cultural knowledge that facilitates positive working relationships in a diverse campus environment.

Ability to apply a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy to tasks.
