Position Summary
Democracy Forward is seeking a Web Manager to maintain, manage, and improve our online presence. This person will oversee functionality, performance, and content for all web platforms, ensuring they serve as an accessible, engaging place for users. The position is part of the Policy & Public Affairs team and reports to the Director of Digital Strategy.
The ideal candidate is equal parts technical problem-solver and digital communicator — comfortable managing multiple websites (large and small), collaborating across teams, and translating strategic needs into smart, user-centered web solutions.
This position is full-time. Democracy Forward’s office is located in Washington, DC. While this position offers flexibility to work remotely, it requires regular in-office presence of at least eight (8) days per month (averaging about 2 times per week) to effectively support the nature of the role.
Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operations, content updates, and performance of DemocracyForward.org and other websites affiliated with the organization.
Collaborate with communications, legal, and policy staff to publish timely updates about our work, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with our message.
Work closely with external developers and designers on updates, troubleshooting, and long-term improvements.
Maintain and improve site structure, navigation, and UX to support key goals—including audience growth, stakeholder engagement, and public education.
Monitor site performance and user behavior using tools like Google Analytics and make data-informed recommendations for improvements.
Lead the implementation of SEO, accessibility, and mobile optimization best practices.
Identify opportunities to enhance storytelling on the site through new formats, pages, or features.
Support integration of third-party tools (e.g., donation platforms, forms, analytics).
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of experience managing and maintaining websites—preferably for a nonprofit, campaign, or advocacy organization.
Strong proficiency with WordPress, including plugin management, basic theming, and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
Experience coordinating with external developers or vendors on technical improvements and updates.
Experience using project management tools, including Airtable.
Familiarity with website analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, Tag Manager) and applying insights to improve user experience.
Understanding of SEO principles, web accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), and mobile-responsive design.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple web updates and projects on tight timelines.
A collaborative approach and proactive mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally with communicators, creatives, and policy experts.
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 commensurate with experience plus excellent benefits. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
