POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is the path to becoming the highest level of Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the company for Geotechnical Engineering. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in multiple areas of competence, the Staff Engineer will play a crucial role in driving innovation, providing technical guidance, and ensuring the quality of our projects. This position requires a strong technical background, substantial working experience, leadership abilities, and a commitment to excellence. This individual has coaching & mentorship responsibilities for Civil/Structural/Geotechnical Engineers, Project Design Leads, Project Controls Engineers, and Designers.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in multiple areas of geotechnical engineering competence, providing expert knowledge and guidance.
Ability to lead multiple projects, particularly those that are more challenging or complex, as needed.
Conduct Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews for project teams, ensuring adherence to standards and specifications.
Act as a key resource for project teams, providing expert assistance in highly technical situations.
Provide mentorship and guide Civil/Structural/Geotechnical Engineers, Project Design Leads, Project Controls Engineers, and Designers, fostering their professional development.
Contribute to the development and improvement of engineering standards and procedures.
Drive and support innovations to promote competitive advantages within the industry.
Proactively identify and address potential technical risks and challenges.
Support the Principal Engineer and Engineering Managers in the development of expertise with pile design, grading, pad design, and roads.
Review and provide comments on EOR drawings and studies to ensure project cost is controlled through comparison to internal preliminary design.
Provides technical leadership and develops and engages others to create a common vision for their programs and the organization
Implements organizational strategy for staff development through mentored experience, continuing education, and self-development
Successfully negotiates critical and controversial issues with corresponding technical leads of other organizations
Represents the organization at important functions or conferences as required
Is a resource that can independently resolve complex problems raised by the project team that involve multiple specialty areas of engineering
Performs advisory or consulting work for the organization across broad program areas or within a specialized area with innovative/complex aspects that leverage their skills and experience
Makes authoritative decisions and recommendations for companywide equipment/procurement decisions and design methodology
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
BS in Geotechnical Engineering; other engineering disciplines from an ABET accredited college will be considered on a case by case basis.
8-10 years' experience in Geotechnical Engineering with respect to renewable energy technologies (i.e. Solar, BESS, HV, etc.)
Professional experience with Utility PV Contract negotiation for self-perform EPC's.
Ability to read, understand, and redline prints and contract documents.
Strong written & oral communication, organizational and planning skills.
Strong communication skills to convey concerns, analytical data, and job constraints.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
Thorough knowledge of Civil/Structural/Geotechnical Engineering & design programs
PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Professional Engineering License preferred.
MS in Civil/Structural/Geotechnical Engineering a plus.
Candidates with mentorship & training experience are preferred
Ability to understand manufacturer's design parameters, application limitations, and installation guidelines.
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and follow through on assigned tasks and projects with minimal to no supervision.
Able to work in a fast-moving environment while maintaining a positive attitude in stressful situations.
High level of organizational skills and professionalism.

Salary $130,000- $180,000 annually, dependent on experience, qualifications, and competencies.
