Active Membranes, founded in 2022, is an impact driven company that with the mission of addressing global fresh water scarcity. We do this though our innovative and groundbreaking electrically activated desalination membranes (filtration systems) that have application all over the world in high-tech and sustainable water reclamation processes. Our small but mighty team is dedicated to solving for more fresh water at a lower cost and our objective is to scale our business rapidly. Our business is pre-revenue currently, executing multiple pilot programs now and scaling for our first commercial production in early 2025.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Manager to oversee and optimize key areas of our operations, focusing on supplier management, inventory control, and production planning and execution. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our supply chain, inventory systems, and production processes, ensuring that products are delivered on time and meet quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operational leadership, a strategic mindset, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams to achieve company goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement & Supplier Management:

Manage the procurement and purchasing process

Develop and nurture strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring the timely delivery of materials and products that meet quality and cost expectations.

Monitor and evaluate supplier performance based on key metrics such as delivery time, cost, quality, and responsiveness.

Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to ensure favorable agreements and cost savings.

Manage supplier risks, resolve disputes, and ensure adherence to industry standards.

Conduct regular supplier reviews, audits, and evaluations to maintain high standards of performance.

Maintain Supplier Database

Inventory Management:

Oversee all aspects of inventory management, including stock levels, replenishment, and optimization of inventory turnover.

Implement and maintain inventory control systems and best practices to reduce stockouts, excess inventory, and waste.

Develop inventory management methodology for modules (finished goods) as well as all component and raw materials.

Ensure inventory accuracy through regular stock audits, cycle counts, and reconciliation processes.

Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely product availability and align inventory with production and sales requirements.

Fixed Asset Management:

Manage the lifecycle of all fixed assets, including acquisition, maintenance, depreciation, and disposal.

Develop and implement processes for tracking and safeguarding company assets to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial and regulatory requirements.

Work with other departments to manage asset-related risks, such as equipment failure or obsolescence, and propose solutions to minimize operational disruptions.

Production Planning & Execution:

Develop and maintain production schedules, ensuring alignment with customer demand, inventory levels, and supply chain capabilities.

Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize workflow, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency.

Oversee production teams & processes to ensure compliance with quality standards and timely delivery of products.

Identify and resolve bottlenecks, production delays, and resource constraints that impact performance.

Lead initiatives to enhance production efficiency through lean manufacturing, process improvement, and technology adoption.

Logistics & Order Fulfillment

Plan and coordinate transportation of goods from suppliers to warehouses and from warehouses to customers.

Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation providers (e.g., freight forwarders, couriers, and carriers) to ensure cost-effective shipping.

Track shipments to ensure timely delivery and handle any delays or disruptions in transportation.

Manage delivery schedules, ensuring goods are delivered to customers on time and within budget.

Ensure orders are processed efficiently and accurately, coordinating with order fulfillment teams to meet customer requirements.

Monitor and ensure timely picking, packing, and shipping of products to customers.

Ensure that all logistics operations align with customer service expectations and company policies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with engineering, finance, and business development teams to ensure alignment between supply, inventory, and production activities.

Lead and participate in cross-departmental meetings to assess operational performance, resolve challenges, and discuss improvement opportunities.

Coordinate with logistics and warehousing teams to streamline the flow of materials and finished goods.

Reporting & Performance Metrics:

Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for supplier performance, inventory accuracy, asset management, and production efficiency.

Provide regular reports to senior management regarding operational performance, potential risks, and areas for improvement.

Utilize data and analytics to drive informed decisions, reduce costs, and increase profitability.

Compliance & Safety:

Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and health and safety standards across all operational activities.

Monitor the safe operation and maintenance of equipment and assets, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.

Stay up-to-date on industry trends, best practices, and legal requirements related to supply chain, asset management, and production.

Qualifications:

Experience in Manufacturing and Warehouse Environment

Bachelor's degree engineering, operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.

At least 5 years of experience in operations management, supply chain, inventory, production planning, or a similar role, specifically in water, chemical, electrical, electronics, mechanical industries

Strong knowledge of supplier relationship management, inventory systems, fixed asset management, and production planning processes.

Proficient in using ERP systems, inventory management software, and production planning tools.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Knowledge of relevant compliance and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, OSHA).

Preferred:

Certifications in supply chain management (e.g., APICS, ISM) or asset management (e.g., Certified Asset Management Professional - CAMP).
