Ever-Green Energy is looking for an experienced Civil or Mechanical Designer who performs non-routine and midrange to higher complexity assignments with general supervision and oversight.
This individual will be responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D designs using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Revit software. They will work closely with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure that designs meet project requirements and industry standards.
The Designer will play a key role as the link between conceptual design and physical realization of projects for buried distribution piping networks, district heating and district cooling central plants, and customer building mechanical systems connected to systems operated, managed and/or supported by Ever-Green Energy, under general supervision and instruction. This role will involve work on a diverse range of projects that bridge between typically civil engineering and mechanical engineering spheres. Willingness to learn about and participate in design of systems outside of experience or education is essential to success in this position.

Minimum requirements to be successful in this role:
Associates degree in Applied Science or abbreviated A.A.S.
Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in civil or mechanical design utilizing Civil3D or Revit.
Experience in creating three dimensional (3D) models and designs using Civil 3D, Revit, or other relevant software.
Strong ability with Autodesk AutoCAD applications to provide analysis of systems and produce engineering plan drawings required.
Preferred requirements:
Autodesk Certified Professional or demonstrated knowledge of covered concepts.
Past experience and/or academic focus in thermal/industrial systems, utilities, and campus systems.

Experience with 3D modeling and visualization tools.

Strong understanding of civil and/or mechanical engineering principles and practices.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Ability to perform calculations related to material stress and fluid flow.

Preferred Skills:
Working knowledge of process and utility piping specifications and codes.
Working knowledge of structural steel design practices related to equipment supports, pipe, and building structural framing preferred.
Process plant or building HVAC design background from conceptual design to layout and design of process and utility piping systems preferred.
Use of GPS, electronic total station, and other survey vehicles.
Familiarity and general understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) components and benefits.
Familiarity with other design software, such as SketchUp or MicroStation
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide computer-aided design (CAD) services for district energy and district cooling distribution system design and maintenance projects of varying complexity under the general supervision of the manager and Project Engineer. Refers more complex issues to manager or higher-level colleagues.
a. Prepare CAD drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D design software, including project layout, topographical information, plan and profile drawings, and detail drawings for new construction projects and maintenance projects.
b. Assist in bid document preparation, including figures, detail drawings, or other associated documents.
c. Assist the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer in providing cost and schedule estimates for design and drafting work for individual project proposals.
d. Utilizes CAD Standards of the organization.
e. Reviews own drawings for quality and accuracy, before receiving reviews from higher-level colleague. Reviews lower-level colleagues’ drawings.
2. Provide computer-aided design (CAD) services for central plant and customer buildings’ system design and maintenance projects of low to medium complexity under the general supervision of the manager and Project Engineer.
a. Perform 3D design and equipment layouts using Revit, including generation of sketches and General Arrangement drawings necessary for the installation of processing equipment, including project layout, plan and detail drawings for new construction projects and plant or building maintenance projects.
b. Perform piping design including 3D routing of pipes using Revit, determination of pipe supports and creation of Isometric drawings necessary for the fabrication and installation of piping systems.
c. Performing fieldwork necessary to gather data, check tie-ins and provide construction support.
d. Update and maintain production system process flow diagrams and P&IDs, details, and schematics with standard symbology.
e. Utilizes CAD Standards of the organization.
f. Receives reviews of drawings for quality and accuracy from higher-level colleague.
3. Perform surveying for the District Energy St. Paul distribution system under the direct supervision of higher-level colleague.
a. Practical knowledge of the use of all survey equipment including electronic data collectors, levels, Robotic Total Stations, and GPS equipment to ensure proper information and coordinates are documented for correct placement of various structures.
b. Prepare topographical, topographical profiles, and related maps used in planning and construction for low to (at times) higher complexity projects.
c. Prepare finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, and other survey reports.
d. Coordinate information for construction stakeout services. Interpret construction plans and mark the location of proposed new structures to ensure construction goes according to plan.
e. Convert survey information to AutoCAD Civil 3D software to create mapping of the surveyed area.
4. Provide computer-aided design (CAD) services as required to support drawing requirements for district energy customer connections and thermal energy production facilities under the general supervision of manager or other leadership.
5. Participate in and provide emergency response as required by District Energy’s On-Call program and other customer-based assistance.
6. Support other Ever-Green Energy project development group projects as necessary to meet project needs under general supervision of manager and/or Project Manager.
7. Complete other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Must be capable of maneuvering throughout industrial facilities such as energy plants and building HVAC mechanical rooms, etc.

We are committed to providing salary ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity considerations.
The hourly range for this position is: $27.00 to $33.00.
This range reflects the base salary for this position.
