Associate – Privacy & Cybersecurity Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, or Washington, DC
Our client, a highly respected global law firm, is seeking a Privacy & Cybersecurity Associate with 4–6 years of experience to join its nationally recognized data privacy practice. This role offers front-line client engagement, meaningful project leadership, and the opportunity to shape and implement cutting-edge privacy and data governance strategies for a wide range of clients.
While preference is given to candidates located in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, or Washington, DC, other U.S. office locations may be considered for qualified applicants.
Position Summary:
As a Privacy & Cybersecurity Associate, you will work directly with supervising partners and clients on a wide range of U.S.-focused privacy and data compliance counseling matters. The role is ideal for attorneys who are energized by direct client interaction and thrive in a collaborative, intellectually curious, and high-performance environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide practical legal advice related to U.S. state privacy laws, such as CCPA, CPRA, WA MHMD, and others
Lead compliance assessments and assist in building enterprise-wide privacy programs
Draft and implement client-facing and internal documents, including:
Privacy policies and notices
Data subject rights (DSR) procedures
Contracting templates and negotiation playbooks
Incident response protocols and tabletop exercises
Advise clients on adtech and online tracking compliance, including TCPA, CAN-SPAM, and self-regulatory frameworks (DAA, NAI, IAB)
Offer sector-specific guidance, especially in financial services and healthcare, including:
GLBA, CalFIPA, FCRA, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and state health privacy laws
Serve as a lead advisor on matters, independently manage client relationships, and contribute to team-wide project execution
Occasionally supervise paralegals or junior attorneys when appropriate
Qualifications:
4–6 years of data privacy counseling experience in a large law firm setting (boutique specialists may also be considered)
Specific experience with state privacy laws and privacy program implementation is required
Strong preference for experience advising on:
Adtech and online tracking technologies
Financial and health/life sciences sector compliance
Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills
Self-starter with the ability to manage complex matters and meet tight deadlines under pressure
Proven ability to prioritize competing demands and deliver practical, business-minded advice
Must be admitted to practice in the jurisdiction of the office for which you are applying
Privacy certifications such as CIPP-US, CIPT, and CIPM are preferred but not required
