Description
Valdese Weavers is a 100% employee-owned (ESOP) company and has been in business for over 100 years. As one of the largest woven textile mills in the world, Valdese Weavers designs and manufactures residential and contract grade fabrics for furniture manufacturers, fabric distributors, and large retailers.
Job Summary:
The Safety Manager leads the development and execution of health and safety initiatives in partnership with leadership to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and a safe and healthy work environment.
Essential Functions:
Monitor compliance with all federal and state safety regulations. (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, DOT).
Conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance.
Manages the workers' compensation program and represents the company in defense of workers' compensation actions.
Act as liaison with outside organizations such as fire departments, rescue teams, etc. to ensure information exchange and assistance.
Conduct audits and direct activities to identify hazards, maintain compliance, and evaluate loss-producing potential.
Coordinate the development of safety-related company policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance.
Oversee all Emergency Response Team training, Fire Extinguisher, and Forklift to ensure compliance.
Assist the Training Department in planning and facilitating site-specific training in required regulatory topics and best management practices.
Compile, analyze, and interpret related data concerning occupational illnesses and accidents, and prepare reports as needed for management.
Manage the SDS Program and update the EHS system.
Lead the safety committee, monitoring success to ensure responsive action to EHS matters.
Supervise the HR/Safety Coordinator.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Responsibilities:
Administers the pre-employment testing program and interprets results.
Administer and assist with all background screenings for Motor Vehicle Reports for CDL company-authorized drivers
Administer first aid and CPR as necessary, including facilitating classes.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's in Business or related preferred. Associate's degree required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Health & Safety.
Extensive knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and has worked directly with OSHA which includes the OSHA consultative programs.
Certified as an Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with others.
High confidence level.
Must be dependable.
Audiometric and pulmonary function certification preferred.
First aid and CPR certification required
Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
Physical Requirements:
Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
