Job Description

A leading national real estate corporation is seeking a Controller on a REMOTE, direct hire basis. The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role requires a CPA with deep experience in the real estate industry. While the position is remote, the ideal candidate must be based in or near the California Bay Area for occasional in-person meetings and site visits.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead all aspects of the company's accounting operations.

Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in compliance with GAAP.

Prepare and analyze timely and accurate financial statements and reports for internal stakeholders and external auditors.

Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.

Oversee financial reporting for multiple entities, joint ventures, and complex ownership structures.

Support strategic decision-making through financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis.

Work closely with asset management, property management, and development teams to ensure proper cost accounting and project tracking.

Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party consultants.

Train and manage accounting team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Implement and optimize accounting systems and software tools to support scalability and performance.

Qualifications:

Active CPA license required.

Bachelor's degree is required.

Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least two years in a leadership role.

Extensive real estate industry experience is required.

Proficient in real estate accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage) and ERP systems.

Must be based in or near the California Bay Area and able to attend occasional in-person meetings.
