Job Description
An electrical inspector examines electrical systems in buildings to ensure they are safe and working properly. They also ensure that electrical work complies with codes and regulations.
Responsibilities
Inspect electrical systems in new, existing, and modified buildings
Ensure electrical work meets codes and regulations
Inspect electrical signs
Investigate complaints of electrical violations
Prepare reports and correction notices
Issue notices of non-compliance
Sign permits to approve electrical work
Perform field inspections
Perform tests on equipment and materials
Assist in training other inspectors
Education and experience
Completion of a state-approved electrical apprenticeship program
2 Years of full-time paid electrical experience
Working conditions
Work in and around buildings, facilities, and construction sites
Exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, heights, mechanical and electrical hazards
May need to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects
Other responsibilities
Interpret and apply utility standards and regulations
Communicate findings to homeowners and contractors
Schedule and prepare field routes for other inspectors
