Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Controller to oversee and enhance the financial operations of our organization in Fort Mill, South Carolina. This role involves leading the accounting team, managing full-cycle accounting processes, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction accounting and a proactive approach to process improvement and financial planning.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the accounting team, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, and support staff, while fostering growth and excellence in performance.

• Supervise all aspects of full-cycle accounting operations, including month-end and year-end close processes, job costing, and work-in-progress reporting.

• Ensure compliance with state and federal tax regulations, including sales/use tax and contractor licensing requirements for North Carolina and South Carolina.

• Identify and implement improvements in accounting systems, internal controls, and financial reporting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

• Partner with ownership to develop cash flow forecasts, budgets, and long-term financial strategies.

• Coordinate with external auditors and CPAs to facilitate year-end reviews and ensure regulatory compliance.

• Review payroll processes and contribute to the development of employee bonus structures.

• Optimize the use of Foundation for Construction software, ensuring best practices are applied to support scalable workflows.

• Deliver timely and accurate financial reports and insights to support strategic decision-making by leadership.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• At least 5–10 years of accounting experience, within the construction industry; experience in roofing or subcontracting is a plus.

• Proven leadership experience, including managing accounting teams and driving performance.

• Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, and multi-state compliance, particularly in North and South Carolina.

• Proficiency with construction accounting software, with a preference for Foundation for Construction.

• Exceptional organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to process improvement.

• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, with the capacity to lead and collaborate effectively.

• Advanced skills in financial forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
