Robert Half is partnering with a mission-driven and rapidly growing non-profit organization based in the Bronx looking to bring on a dynamic Controller to lead the accounting function, help drive financial strategy, and support our continued growth.. Position Summary:
The Controller will play a key leadership role within the Finance Department, overseeing all accounting operations and managing a dedicated team of accounting professionals. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will ensure the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and will be a strategic partner in budgeting, forecasting, and process improvement initiatives.
This is a fully in-office position offering a true 9-to-5 schedule with flexible work hours and an excellent quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, grants accounting, and payroll
Supervise and mentor a growing team of accounting staff
Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
Prepare and review financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders
Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with the CFO
Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard organizational assets
Manage annual audit process and liaise with external auditors
Assist the CFO with financial modeling, cash flow management, and long-term financial planning
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and city reporting requirements, including those related to non-profit and grant-funded activities
Participate in systems upgrades and other strategic initiatives to support organizational growth
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or Master’s degree a plus
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Non-profit accounting experience strongly preferred
Knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and grant compliance
Proficiency with MIP and FundEZ accounting software preferred
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with senior leadership
