Position Focus:

The Research Coordinator will work closely with the PI, the Executive Director, postdocs, graduate students, research

assistants, and external collaborators, especially at CPE. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to pursue a career in academic research, policy research, government, and/or data-driven activism.

Recruit, train, and supervise research assistants. The research coordinator is responsible for both documenting the research assistants’ progress and curating their experience to maximize the quality of the science the lab produces and the professional growth of the research assistants. Manage the PI’s calendar (Dr. Phillip Atiba Solomon) in collaboration with the PI’s executive assistant. Work with the executive director to determine the need for research assistants and to maximize the efficiency of the research process. Coordinate local IRB materials/applications. Coordinate local subject pool logistics (e.g., access, credit, etc.). Coordinate regular meetings of the CPE-Yale Research Lab under the direction of PI. Manage the Lab’s on-campus presence (including offices) and contribute to the intellectual community of the lab by modeling preparedness, curiosity, and active participation in meetings. Manage day-to-day operations of the research lab and advise the Principal Investigator and senior researchers on ways to ensure optimal collaboration and functioning of the lab. Manage administration of experimental procedures with human subjects. Assist in bookkeeping and preparing accounting reports, in consultation with finance colleagues. Manage program funds and reimbursements. Balance project support while maintaining internal administrative workflow and task organization. Serve as lab external liaison. Act as a liaison between Yale University offices and external partners, particularly relevant CPE staff members and teams. Provide and coordinate research support to the Principal Investigator and senior researchers. Facilitate communication between researchers, research assistants, and staff. Develop and coordinate center events, including logistics, advertising, and financial management; and support senior researchers in applications to external events and convenings. Establish and maintain responsive relationships with faculty partners, university management, research contacts in the HRPP office (IRB), and

financial administrative associates. Maintain and track the status of Yale affiliations.

Essential Duties

Principal Responsibilities: 1. In support of the overall mission, plans, directs and oversees programmatic activities. 2. Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures. 3. Manages program communications; identifies outreach potential, and promotes philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. 4. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. 5. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. 6. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Develops metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. 7. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. 8. Develops and manages the program's operating budget. 9. Manages the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resources including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Prior experience managing or leading social science research projects with familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Research experience and interest in areas of public safety, policing, crime, race/ethnicity, gender, structural inequality, political science, sociology, criminology, and/or psychology. Preferred one year or more experience in conducting computer, web-based, and/or lab-based experiments.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills, with self-motivation, and attention to detail.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability to demonstrate collaborative and intercultural communication and capacity for engaging with diverse audiences including academic research collaborators, students, and law enforcement. Ability to balance multiple projects and adapt to a dynamic work environment, while independently maintaining administrative workflow.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Technological proficiency and capacity to learn new software and technological processes. Familiarity with R, Zotero, Google Drive preferred.
