What You'll Do:

The Assistant Administrator of Safe and Supportive Schools leads a team that supports Ohio's students, families, and educators in ensuring schools are safe and supportive including oversight of the Department's initiatives involving: family engagement, attendance, student voice, student discipline, positive behavioral interventions and supports, school safety, workforce development skills, and school climate.

Provides visionary leadership and develops strategies, processes and procedures aligned to the office and the Department’s vision and priorities.

Assists in the planning and coordination of overall operation of the Office of Whole Child Supports.

Understands, explains, and supports Ohio's compliance and implementation of federal and state laws, grants, and guidance, and leads the team in promoting understanding of complex concepts and systems for all stakeholders, especially students, families, and educators.

Collaborates regularly with other state agencies and Department teams to provide comprehensive supports, address the immediate needs of students and families in safe and supportive schools, and support local and regional resources and relationships.

Assists in development of policy, budget, and legislative recommendations to further the mission of the office and center (e.g. develops policy related to implementation of federal and state law related to vulnerable populations, grant funding).

Makes policy and program recommendations related to the interpretation and implementation of federal and state law, research, and best practices to support students and families in Ohio schools.

Leads, supervises, and develops assigned team members (e.g., evaluates performance; provides feedback and support; implements agency employee policies; approves/disapproves leave; makes selection and/or termination recommendations; assigns roles and responsibilities; provides staff training and coaching).

Oversees policies, project plans, technical assistance, professional development, research, resources, and communications for statewide implementation of programming and legislation requirements related to specific populations.

Researches and develops data-informed project guidance to ensure continuous improvement and compliance.

Develops and manages budget and fiscal resources including grants, contracts and partnerships to support expansion and implementation of programs supporting attendance, family engagement, positive behavioral interventions and supports, school safety, school discipline, workforce development skills, student voice, and school climate.

Collaborates with staff, other office teams, other agency offices and external partners to align and integrate all non-academic supports, family and student engagement, and positive school climate in multi-tiered systems of supports

Builds relationships with key stakeholders, local community organizations, state agencies and organizations to expand and strengthen supports and outcomes for students in vulnerable populations.

Performs other related duties as assigned; handles media requests; attends and presents at state and/or regional meetings and conferences.

Minimum qualifications:

Completion of graduate core program in education, business administration, law, public policy, public administration, social or behavioral science and one of the following:

5 years of supervisory or administrative experience in education, law, or human services

OR

5 years of experience as an educational leader supporting districts, schools, and educators in implementing whole supports for students and school climate initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong organizational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex roles and responsibilities

Systems thinker with creativity and strong problem-solving skills

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills related to educational policy, resource allocation, and program design

Experience developing and implementing policy

Excellent relationship-building skills, with demonstrated success engaging a broad array of stakeholders

Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Proven ability to build productive relationships with, and communicate complex messages to, a wide variety of stakeholders

Unwavering belief that all students can learn and achieve success in school

Budgeting and managing grants and multiple funding sources
