What you’ll need to succeed as a Dock Operations Trainer at XPO

Minimum qualifications:

At least 18 years of age

Two years of Dockworker or forklift operations experience

Demonstrated leadership skills

Strong understanding of ZDM, the handheld device and company policy and procedure, including safety

Able to balance multiple tasks while positively motivating, coaching and communicating clear instructions to others

Able to work well and thrive within a cross-functional often changing team environment (HR, Safety, Ops, etc.); able to work independently when required

Strong company spokesperson

Able to read and follow instructions including job guides and other company documents

Computer skills, including email and basic Microsoft Office Skills

Able to describe a process during the learning process and patience to see it executed

Dock Operations Certificate completion

Timely support the scheduling of sessions as requested and the processing of session rosters/activity reports (Outlook, People Services, XPO University, etc.)

Time management and organizational skills, including the ability to meet facilitation deadlines

Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays

Able to do basic math calculations, with and without a calculator

Infrequent travel (5%) to include overnight stays

Preferred qualifications:

Prior experience supervising a team or demonstrated experience training others

Prior Dockworker experience at XPO with good performance including attendance, safety record, and damage frequency score

Participation with local service center employee engagement team

A desire to progress in your XPO career

An associate's degree, military experience or equivalent experience

Desire to succeed with a strong attention to detail

About the Dock Operations Trainer job

Pay, benefits and more, upon successful completion of the Dock Operations training certification:

Pay starts at $27.02/hour

Additional $1.50/hour premium for training hours

Additional $1.80/hour shift premium for FAC shift

Flexibility to work all 3 shifts, with priority work on the FAC and OB shifts

This is a Motor Carrier Act exempt position

What you’ll do on a typical day:

Train all new freight handlers on correct dock operations processes including sorting, handling, loading and unloading palletized and non-palletized freight and hazardous materials

Train all new freight handlers on safe equipment usage including motorized and manual equipment, and securing freight inside trailers, and the handheld device

Responsible for the effective onboarding, training, performance quality and retention of new all new freight handlers

Effectively assess all new freight handler's skill and proficiency level

Deliver training sessions in accordance with agreed upon training plan and ensure skills transfer

Attend daily WIN meetings with new employees ensuring they understand the material and put it into practice

Will be responsible for engaging DW’s and DSR’s with less than 1 year to improve their freight handling procedures

Collaborate with Supervisors on 30-60-90 day evaluations to ensure completion and that the new employee is making positive improvement in noted areas

Effectively coach all new freight handlers in the moment including use of SMART and the Accountability Policy

Review evaluations and feedback from new hires and others to assess effectiveness and make enhancements to training sessions

80% of the time will be spent training. In periods where no training, onboarding, coaching or quality inspection is required, must be willing to operate as a Dockworker and exhibit proper freight handling techniques thereby leading others by example

Exhibit a positive attitude and act as a brand ambassador of XPO Core Values, builds positive relationships

Obtain and maintain facilitator certification as requested

Dock Operations Trainers are required to:

Lift freight and other objects of various shapes, sizes and weights (frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally greater than 70 lbs.)

Sort, handle, load and unload palletized and non-palletized freight using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including a pallet jack, forklift and by hand

Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery

Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel as necessary
