Managing Director
The Managing Director is responsible for the overall financial health of their Studio through management of the Profit & Loss (P&L). They are responsible for the growth strategy and GTM of their Studio, partnering with sales and overseeing the practice directors to drive revenue for the business. They ensure excellence in delivery and client satisfaction through oversight of practice directors and the broader team, driving repeat business. They ensure profitability targets are met, by managing expenses, prioritizing investments, sharing resources across Studios, and making responsible hiring decisions. They collaborate with the P/X and Operations teams to support employee growth, and process improvements to enhance the employee experience.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Develop and evolve the go-to-market strategy for their Studio to expand services and grow the business
Develop performance goals across sales and delivery for their Studios, in alignment with company goals
Determine strategies to maintain and expand existing client partnerships, and generate new account growth, in partnership with sales and account leadership
In partnership with sales, identify sales plans in alignment with revenue goals, addressing gaps with the CRO, and pivot plans through regular monitoring of sales progress to plan
In partnership with sales, generate new business leads and opportunities through your network
Oversee sales and delivery, and sometimes lead the preparation of estimates and proposals, providing strategic guidance, pricing and positioning strategies
Review contracts to ensure scope is clearly defined and terms are defined to protect Fresh
Monitor revenue through weekly forecasting, and ensure forecasting commits are accurate
Monitor industry trends and market conditions to identify opportunities and risks.
Manage the budget and ensure financial health of the P&L to meet or exceed revenue and profitability targets
Manage the weekly, monthly and quarterly rhythm of the business meetings for their Studio to monitor progress and ensure collaboration across sales and delivery
Analyze and monitor the business for risks and issues, and identify solutions for mitigations and resolutions, collaborating with their manager and the broader executive team to seek strategic input and guidance
Build long-term, trusting relationships with client stakeholders that foster repeat business
Oversee resource management for their Studio, ensuring resources are shared across teams when applicable, and responsible hiring decisions are made in collaboration with practice leadership
Partner with delivery leadership to ensure the appropriate oversight of delivery to enhance quality of work and outcomes that meet client expectations
Foster team cohesion through transparency in communication, and connection and collaboration through surveys, 1:1s, all-hands, and working sessions
Attract and retain highly skilled individuals for key roles on the team, in partnership with practice leadership and the recruiting team
Partner with the VP of Operations on overall operational needs for Studios and the company, including process improvements, tooling, training and progress monitoring, across sales and delivery
Partner with the P/X team on internal company initiatives, provide feedback from the team on how to improve company culture and processes, and support internal training efforts
Partner with the IT team on internal infrastructure, hardware, and software needs, and support internal training and compliance efforts
Desired Experience:
Leadership and Management: 10+ years of experience leading teams, managing budgets (P&L), and developing/executing strategic plans. This includes experience with performance goal setting, resource management, and team building.
Client Relationship Management: 5+ years of experience building and maintaining long-term client relationships, identifying client needs, and fostering repeat business. Experience with managing client expectations and ensuring client satisfaction is crucial.
Business Development/Go-to-Market Strategy: 3+ years of experience developing and implementing go-to-market strategies, driving sales partnerships, and contributing to new account growth. Experience with sales forecasting and revenue monitoring is essential.
Delivery Oversight: 3+ years of experience overseeing project delivery, ensuring quality of work, and meeting deadlines and client expectations. Experience with agile methodologies and resource allocation is highly valuable.
Financial Management: 3+ years of experience managing budgets, forecasting revenue, analyzing financial data (P&L), and ensuring financial health. This includes experience with expense management and prioritizing investments.
Qualifications:
Consulting Environment: Experience working within a consulting environment is essential, as the role involves client interaction and delivery of professional services.
Delivery Background: A background in Design, Software Development, Product Development, Project Management or Engineering is valuable, especially for understanding the services and offerings provided, and communicating effectively with delivery teams.
Bachelor’s degree in business management or related background area (as listed above)
Master’s degree in business management is a plus, but not required
5-10+ years of experience as a Managing Director or in an executive or senior managerial role
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Clear demonstration of leadership capabilities, including being proactive, solution-oriented, decisive, thoughtful, flexible, and adaptable.
Excellent ability to communicate with executive and senior leadership.
For a Washington-State-based role, the base salary hiring range for this position is $180,000 to $220,000. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
