Position Summary:

An established civil engineering firm is seeking a Land Development Engineer in Livonia, MI to lead the technical design aspects of land development projects. This role is ideal for a highly skilled, detail-oriented professional who is experienced in site design, utility layout, stormwater management, and permitting processes. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and play a key role in project execution and mentorship of junior staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the preparation of project drawings, engineering calculations, reports, and technical specifications

Oversee site development design including grading, utilities, and stormwater management systems

Evaluate zoning ordinances and coordinate with municipalities for site plan approvals

Prepare and submit permit applications, coordinating through review and approval processes

Collaborate with owners, architects, landscape architects, and contractors to align project goals

Conduct occasional site visits to assess construction progress and ensure design integrity

Mentor junior engineers and designers, fostering growth and professional development

Participate in client meetings and communicate project status and technical updates effectively

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (required)

Minimum of 5 years of civil engineering experience, including at least 3 years in land development design

Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, etc.)

Familiarity with local zoning requirements and land use planning processes

Experience with K–12 site development projects is a plus, but not required

Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Primarily office-based with occasional travel for client meetings and site visits

Must be willing to travel by car or air as project needs require
