YOUR ROLE
As an IT team member, you'll play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and managing technology solutions that are the foundation of the world class customer service that our customers expect and deserve - now and in the future.
We are seeking an experienced and skilled technology solutions architect who will design and implement robust, scalable, and secure solutions to solve business problems for actuarial teams. You will work closely with various technical and business teams and will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of automated processes and consistent data structures in a hybrid environment - both on-premises and on the cloud. You will facilitate, educate, and collaborate with actuarial team members to influence strategic vision and continual process improvement. All improvements and new developments will meet regulatory and compliance requirements while simplifying ongoing support.
A solution architect at Genworth will:
Be a key liaison between the Actuarial team, the Actuarial IT team and the Data Technology team
Create a technical vision: Analyze the existing environment and develop a strategic technical vision for the solution
Prioritize technical aspects: Ensure the technical vision aligns with business needs and adheres to business objectives
Design and assess technical solutions: Design and thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of potential solutions and adjust as needed
Monitor work delivery: Keep stakeholders informed of progress and challenges, ensuring business needs are met
Collaborate with teams: Work with various teams to address challenges, ensure successful implementation including transitions to steady state support
Translate technical language: Communicate project/task details to non-technical stakeholders in terms they can understand
Assist in developing a budget: Includes estimating costs for new builds or enhancements as well as the cost of steady state support going forward. The ideal candidate effectively prioritizes activities within resource constraints, identifies and documents business problems, gathers both business and system requirements, works with technical/functional leads to design and deliver innovative solutions. You will assist with keeping projects on schedule by resolving roadblocks, coaching/assisting with complicated tasks and escalating when needed.
What you will be doing
Identification, design, development and implementation of end-to-end solutions and process improvements that span both on-premises and cloud
Development includes oversight and coaching
Technical oversight of actuarial processes, to ensure overall success of teams & projects aligned to business strategies
Create, document and communicate solution designs aligned with business vision and needs
Influence consistency of design, processes and tools to increase efficiency of use for technical, physical and human resources
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
Assist Actuarial SMEs to create roadmaps, identify dependencies and ensure tracking of deliverables
Serve as the Actuarial Architecture connection point to understand their specific business and analytical needs.
Initiate and maintain productive interactions with other GNW architects in various areas - Enterprise, Cloud, Data and other solutions architecture roles - to ensure compliance with broader architecture principles, target architecture and standards.
Technical Leadership and Communication:
Provide hands-on architecture design and oversee development teams to ensure solutions are designed and implemented as per the approved architectural design.
Identify critical path decisions and guide/influence key stakeholders and business process owners to decisions that will maximize process efficiency and cost structure, both on-premises and in the cloud.
Leverage Genworth adopted and industry accepted tools to create architecture designs, data flow diagrams, process maps, roadmaps, etc.
Advise teams concerning risks and controls. Influence the build, automation and testing of controls.
Assist with critical and urgent problem solving by serving as an escalation point; coaching and providing leadership during time sensitive debugging efforts, including root cause analysis and documentation.
Coach and train team members on technology specific skill building, including problem solving What you bring
Degree in a technical/analytical field; non-technical degrees considered with strong technical experience
5+ years of experience in roles including:
coding and support of data centric applications using ETL (extract-transform-load) methods/tools (Python/PySpark/Informatica) and multiple data storage types/tools (SQL Server Databases/flat files)
work in and support of various infrastructure platforms (Azure, Unix On-Premises)
3-5 years of experience in automation of technical business processes
Deep knowledge of data warehousing, data management, and cloud migration strategies, particularly in a hybrid environment.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure design/development, using Synapse and/or Fabric
Must be customer focused and possess excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong sense of ownership and drive; Able to work independently and in team settings.
Focus on customer experience and satisfaction, while maintaining governance and process controls
Experienced problem solver with ability to make decisions based on limited knowledge
Excellent planning, organizational and execution skills
Ability to work with both technical and non-technical teams and stakeholders
Experience with converting business requirements to technical solutions
Experience in process improvement/optimization identification, design and implementation
Good working knowledge of SDLC and Agile Methodologies (mainly Kanban and Scrum)
Interest in learning and using new technologies
Nice to have
Experience in migrating processes and data to Microsoft Azure
Experience maintaining processes and data utilizing public and private Cloud hardware and software
Experience with managing actuarial application tools

The base salary pay range for this role starts at a minimum rate of $ 91,800 up to the maximum of $166,000. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in an incentive plan. The incentive plan is based on performance and the target earning opportunity is 10% of your base compensation. The final determination on base pay for this position will be based on multiple factors at the time of this job posting including but not limited to geographic location, experience, and qualifications to ensure pay equity within the organization.
