Knowledge Skills and Abilities * Good written and verbal communication skills * Capable of following complex instructions * Knowledge of security operations and procedures * Prior security experience would be beneficial Essential Job Functions * Perform security checks of residential facilities and identify potential safety hazards * Enforce Housing policies * Support their Residential Life staff during the assigned shift when requested or special needs arise * Patrol surrounding parking areas to help ensure the safety of students, staff and guests going to and from their vehicles * Secure residents' doors and provide lock-out assistance * Conduct preliminary investigation in collaboration with the Alcorn State Police Department * Request proper identification on everyone entering our Resident Hall facilities * Make reports to Residential Life management staff on security violations * Report all suspicious activity to the Residential Life management staff * Provide written reports when required Qualifications * Must have a have at least a high school diploma or GED (some college hours preferred) * Must have basic computer skills * Good communication skills * Must have the ability to think critically and problem solve Licensing and Certifications N/A Physical Requirements Work in noisy (above 85 decibels) areas Sedentary Work - Exerting 10 pounds Occasionally Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds Occasionally Medium Work - Exerting 20-50 pounds Occasionally Heavy Work - Exerting 50-100 pounds Not Required Very Heavy Work - Exerting in excess of 100 pounds Not Required Travel Occasionally Extended Work Hours Occasionally Posting Detail Information Posting Number S1067 Number of Vacancies 4 Location Lorman Position End Date (if temporary) Open Date 10/01/2024 Close Date Open Until Filled Yes EEO Statement Alcorn State University Equal Employment Opportunity and Notice of Non-Discrimination Alcorn State University is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer.
