Mechanical Design and Applications Engineer

Location: Ann Arbor, MI

Join an established leader in the manufacturing of test machinery and automation. We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design and Applications Engineer to design custom, high-performance automated machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conceptualize, design, and analyze machine components, assemblies, and part-holding tooling.

- Produce associated technical drawings and documentation.

- Identify opportunities for design improvement and cost reduction.

- Troubleshoot technical and manufacturing issues, establishing procedures and corrective actions.

- Collaborate with the sales team to discuss customer application needs and develop design solutions.

- Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls Engineering teams on projects for existing customers and new product innovations.

Key Skills and Abilities:

- Excellent design, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

- Experience with precision tolerances and fits in industrial machine applications.

- Proven ability to design quality machines and enhance existing designs.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills, both internally and externally.

- Comfortable working hands-on in a manufacturing environment.

- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously (3-5 jobs).

- Proficient in developing, reading, and analyzing blueprints.

- Understanding of manufacturing techniques, including welding, fabrication, machining, and grinding.

- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software.

Experience and Education:

- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

- Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a design engineer.
