Summary

As a Sales Engineer OEM at Optibelt, you will serve as a pivotal liaison between our organization and OEM clients, combining the responsibilities of a Sales Manager and an Application Engineer. You will be responsible for growing and maintaining business within assigned accounts, conducting regular business reviews, and offering technical expertise to support customer needs. This client-facing role will require frequent travel and cross-departmental collaboration to ensure consistent, high-level service and account development. You will directly contribute to the organization’s strategic growth by fostering robust relationships with OEM clients, executing sales initiatives, and coordinating engineering and commercial solutions.

Purpose of the Role

The primary objective of this role is to integrate sales leadership and technical problem-solving to deepen customer relationships and identify long-term growth opportunities across high-value OEM accounts. By executing business reviews, managing client expectations, and supporting technical inquiries, the Sales Engineer OEM ensures seamless communication between internal teams and customers. Your ability to understand and communicate technical solutions will position you as a trusted advisor, enhancing Optibelt’s reputation as a customer-focused and technically proficient partner in industrial power transmission.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties and responsibilities include:

Growing sales among assigned OEM accounts through regular phone, video, or in-person business reviews.

Executing campaign opportunities in collaboration with Inside Sales and Distribution Coordinators.

Attending customer meetings and field visits as requested.

Serving as a liaison for technical support between the customer and Engineering (USA and Germany).

Managing customer retention efforts and ensuring satisfaction through proactive issue resolution.

Engaging in discrete sales activities based on Inside Sales-generated opportunities.

Participating in weekly Work-In-Progress (WIP) meetings and promptly debriefing outcomes.

Recording detailed notes and outcomes from customer meetings into SugarCRM.

Identifying and escalating sales leads and opportunities to the appropriate internal teams.

Collaborating with Engineering, Inside Sales, and Customer Service to meet technical and commercial customer requirements.

Coordinating relationship activities across multiple customer locations and internal departments.

Supporting campaign brainstorming efforts and maintaining long-term customer relationship strategies beyond active sales pursuits.

Metrics/KPIs Metrics/KPIs

Primary KPI: Opportunity pipeline health, activity flow, and opportunity close rate.

Secondary KPI: Monthly and quarterly sales performance versus established plan.

Timeliness and accuracy of task completion from Inside Sales and Customer Service requests.

Skills and Requirements

Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.

Demonstrated experience in OEM sales, account management, and customer engagement.

Technical acumen and ability to communicate engineering-related concepts clearly.

CRM proficiency (preferably SugarCRM).

Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel proficiency required).

Prior experience with SAP or comparable ERP systems is a plus.

Proven ability to independently manage field visits, customer meetings, and project tasks.

Experience working cross-functionally with engineering and customer support teams.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

Demonstrated resilience in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.

Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset

Campaign Brainstorming: Involved with brainstorming campaign offers.

Decision-Maker Relationships: Maintain relationships with key decision-makers at specific OEM customers outside of opportunity-driven sales activities.

Internal Relationships and Hand-offs:

Engineering Manager: Partners with the Sales Engineer OEM to resolve technical issues and develop tailored solutions for OEM clients.

Inside Sales Representative: Routes all customer interactions requiring field visits to the Sales Engineer OEM via CRM.

Distribution Coordinators: Escalate technical support needs and customer site visit requests to the Sales Engineer OEM.

Customer Service Team: Manages case ownership and coordinates task execution across internal departments
